H30T's High-Res thermal mode is an observation mode and does not provide temperature measurement. Use the correct gain and radiometric mode for the inspection.
Native thermal resolution

H30T doubles each image dimension and quadruples total native thermal pixels.

Native detail is valuable when the target is distant, small, partially obstructed or reviewed after the flight. The target must still occupy enough pixels, remain in focus and be captured under suitable conditions.

Four times H20T's pixel count can preserve smaller temperature patterns, improve target identification and support more useful digital zoom.

This remains useful for many roof, hotspot, utility, solar and public-safety tasks, but reaches its detail limit sooner.

More pixels do not automatically improve radiometric accuracy. DJI lists the same NETD ceiling for both payloads, while measurement quality still depends on the complete thermography workflow.

H30T expands the mission. H20T preserves a familiar legacy workflow.

The better payload is not determined only by the newer model number. Compare the smallest defect, stand-off distance, night requirement, aircraft roadmap, accepted report and annual mission volume.

Radiometric quality assurance

A better sensor still needs a documented thermography workflow.

Temperature readings are influenced by the target, environment, geometry and camera configuration. Preserve original radiometric data and record the conditions needed to interpret it.

Define the defect class, inspection standard and required evidence.
Set emissivity for the actual material rather than using one universal value.
Estimate or measure reflected apparent temperature where required.
Record air temperature, humidity, weather and equipment loading.
Select the correct High Gain, Low Gain or observation mode.
Use the density filter only in the supported high-temperature workflow.
Maintain sufficient focus distance and pixels on the target.

Is H30T thermal resolution four times higher than H20T?

Yes by native pixel count. H30T records 1280 by 1024 thermal images, or 1,310,720 pixels. H20T records 640 by 512, or 327,680 pixels. Width and height are both doubled, producing four times as many native pixels. This can improve visual detail, but it does not guarantee four times the temperature accuracy.

Is H30T more thermally sensitive than H20T?

DJI lists a NETD of no more than 50 mK for both payloads. H30T's main thermal advantages are native 1280 by 1024 resolution, 32x digital zoom, High-Res and UHR tools, wider supported measurement ranges with the optional infrared density filter, and sun-burn protection.

Can H30T measure temperatures up to 1600 degrees Celsius?

Only with the optional infrared density filter in the supported low-gain workflow. DJI lists 0 to 600 degrees Celsius without the filter and up to 1600 degrees Celsius with the filter. Maximum range is not a guarantee of accuracy at every distance, target size or atmospheric condition.

Can H30T replace H20T on Matrice 350 RTK?

Both payloads are officially compatible with Matrice 350 RTK. A migration still requires current firmware, updated thermal-analysis software, revised procedures, operator training and validation against the actual inspection target.

Can H20T be used on Matrice 400?

No. DJI's current Matrice 400 compatibility list includes H30 and H30T but does not include H20T. Teams moving to Matrice 400 need an H30 Series payload for this multi-sensor thermal, zoom and rangefinding role.

Which payload has better visible zoom?

H30T is substantially stronger. DJI specifies 34x optical zoom and 400x digital zoom from a 40 MP zoom camera. H20T provides 23x hybrid optical zoom and 200x maximum zoom from a 20 MP zoom camera. Atmospheric conditions, focus, vibration and target contrast still limit usable detail.

Which payload is better for night inspections?

H30T is the stronger night payload. It combines larger visible sensors, higher listed Night Scene ISO, selectable low-frame-rate Night Scene modes, an 850 nm NIR auxiliary light, dehazing and improved thermal resolution.

Is H20T still useful in 2026?

Yes. H20T remains useful when an existing Matrice 300 or Matrice 350 workflow produces accepted results, operators and reports are already validated, and H30T would not materially improve inspection distance, defect visibility, night performance or annual productivity.

Does higher thermal resolution guarantee accurate temperature readings?

No. Emissivity, reflected apparent temperature, distance, humidity, atmospheric transmission, target size, viewing angle, focus, gain mode, filter selection and calibration all affect radiometric results.

Which payload is better for power-line inspection?
