Answers below follow the supplied R1 configuration table. Where the table does not specify a value, the answer says so rather than assuming that every configuration is identical.
The supplied configuration table lists seven versions:
Each EDU entry inherits the base configuration identified in the supplied table and adds the listed computing, development, head-motion or dexterous-hand capabilities.
The correct choice depends on your development workflow, computing requirement and hand configuration.
R1 Basic has 24 total degrees of freedom, no head degrees of freedom, an 8-core high-performance CPU and no secondary-development support. R1 EDU U1 includes the Basic features and adds a 40 TOPS expansion dock, AI algorithm support, high- and low-level development, robot models, simulation interfaces and support for simulation environments such as Isaac SIM.
R1 EDU U1 has 24 total degrees of freedom, no head degrees of freedom and a 40 TOPS expansion dock. R1 EDU U2 increases the total to 26 degrees of freedom, adds two head degrees of freedom and upgrades the expansion dock to 100 TOPS.
R1 Basic is explicitly listed as not supporting secondary development. R1 EDU U1 supports high- and low-level development. R1 EDU U2 through U6 support secondary development and include robot models, simulation interfaces and support for simulation environments such as Isaac SIM.
The EDU expansion docks are described as supporting development and AI algorithms.
Every listed configuration has six DOF per leg, two at the waist and five per arm. R1 EDU U2 through U6 also have two head DOF. Dexterous-hand joints account for the higher totals on U3 through U6.
