DJI O4 Ground Station Launch: What It Means for Canadian Dock and Remote Drone Operations

DJI Enterprise News · June 16, 2026

O4 Ground Station changes the link design, not the operating rules.

Gateway and Relay modes can widen a compatible enterprise system's communications architecture. Canadian deployment still begins with exact compatibility, spectrum, site validation, power, backhaul and authorization.

Quick answer

DJI announced O4 Ground Station on June 16, 2026 as a wide-area transmission system for compatible docks, enterprise drones and delivery platforms. It combines a 12-antenna design, automatic multi-band selection, FlightHub 2-connected Gateway Mode and offline Relay Mode. For a Canadian team, it is a planning component, not proof of coverage, approval or local availability.

What DJI announced

Four published capabilities define the product story.

Every figure below is a DJI controlled-environment result or product specification. Features can depend on the paired aircraft, firmware and country or region.

Gateway versus Relay

The right mode depends on where the control and network path live.

Gateway Mode

Gateway Mode connects O4 Ground Station to DJI FlightHub 2 for cloud-connected video and remote-control workflows. DJI states that, with Dock 3 under its test conditions, coverage can reach up to 30 km. Treat that number as a test ceiling, not a design radius or permission to fly beyond the authorized operation.

Relay Mode

Relay Mode is intended for offline areas or severe obstruction. A station placed at a suitable high point can extend transmission and connect sequentially to compatible remotes and docks. It does not replace RF surveying, line-of-sight analysis, terrain modelling or a recovery procedure.

Availability boundary: DJI says O4 Ground Station is sold through authorized enterprise dealers, but SpeedyDrone did not have a verified live O4 Ground Station product page on August 7, 2026. This article does not claim Canadian inventory, pricing, certification or delivery timing.

Why it matters for SpeedyDrone Canada

A stronger link is useful only inside a complete operating architecture.

O4 Ground Station is most relevant to teams evaluating DJI Dock 3, remote inspection, public safety or large-site monitoring. It can address communications bottlenecks, but it cannot resolve every deployment bottleneck.

Confirm exact compatibility

Match the ground station, aircraft, dock, controller, FlightHub 2 plan, firmware and regional feature availability. “Latest enterprise drones” is not a substitute for a model-by-model bill of materials.

Survey the RF and terrain

Map buildings, trees, ridges, interference, antenna height and expected flight corridors. Use DJI's Signal Map as operational evidence after deployment, not as a replacement for the pre-design survey.

Design power and backhaul

Gateway Mode needs a reliable network path. Remote sites also need grounded power, surge protection, weatherproof cabling, monitoring and a safe maintenance plan. DJI lists solar and third-party photovoltaic options, subject to supported design.

Build loss-of-link behaviour

Document what the aircraft, dock, cloud system and crew do when radio, internet, positioning or power is degraded. Recovery logic matters more than a maximum-range headline.

Separate technical range from legal privilege

Transport Canada determines the operating category from what, how and where you fly. A longer communications link does not by itself authorize BVLOS, controlled-airspace or remote unattended operations.

Canadian fit check

Ask seven questions before requesting a quote.

  1. Which exact aircraft and dock must connect?
  2. Is the primary need obstruction penetration, wider coverage or offline relay?
  3. What terrain, building height, vegetation and interference shape the link?
  4. Is wired backhaul available, or does the site need cellular, satellite or another design?
  5. How will power, grounding, surge protection and winter access be handled?
  6. What operation category, Safety Assurance and authorization apply to the intended mission?
  7. What is the acceptance test for link quality, latency, coverage, failover and recovery?

Start with SpeedyDrone's DJI Enterprise solutions and DJI's current FlightHub 2 information, then validate whether O4 Ground Station belongs in the architecture.

DJI O4 Ground Station FAQ

What did DJI announce on June 16, 2026?

DJI announced O4 Ground Station, a wide-area transmission system with a 12-antenna design, automatic multi-band selection, Gateway Mode and Relay Mode for compatible enterprise systems.

What is Gateway Mode?

Gateway Mode connects O4 Ground Station to DJI FlightHub 2 for cloud-connected video and remote-control workflows with compatible equipment and supported regional features.

What is Relay Mode?

Relay Mode is designed to extend transmission in offline or heavily obstructed areas by positioning the station at a suitable point between compatible equipment.

Does O4 Ground Station guarantee 30 km Dock 3 coverage?

No. DJI reports up to 30 km for Dock 3 under controlled test conditions. Terrain, interference, antenna placement, aircraft, firmware, regional limits and the legal operating category can reduce the usable result.

Is O4 Ground Station available from SpeedyDrone Canada?

No verified live SpeedyDrone O4 Ground Station product page was found on August 7, 2026. Contact the enterprise team for current Canadian availability and solution scope.

Can O4 Ground Station authorize BVLOS operations in Canada?

No. Communications capability and legal operating privilege are separate. The operator must meet the applicable Transport Canada category, certification, Safety Assurance and authorization requirements.

Does Gateway Mode require internet access?

Gateway Mode is built around a connection to FlightHub 2, so the site design must include a suitable network path. Relay Mode is the option DJI describes for offline extension.

What should a Canadian site survey include?

It should include terrain, obstructions, interference, antenna height, flight corridors, spectrum, backhaul, power, grounding, weather, maintenance access, loss-of-link behaviour and the applicable operating approval.
