DJI Mini 5 Pro Canada: Current Pricing, Features and What Buyers Should Know

Mini 5 Pro brings a 1-inch camera, advanced night sensing, flexible vertical shooting and longer battery options to DJI’s lightest premium drone class. The important Canadian buying question is not only which controller to choose—it is which battery keeps the aircraft below or moves it above 250 g.

Quick answer

Mini 5 Pro is DJI’s strongest compact travel-drone package—but Canadian buyers must choose the battery deliberately.

Choose the standard battery when minimizing operating weight and preserving a possible microdrone workflow is the priority. Choose Battery Plus when longer sessions are more important and you are prepared to register the aircraft and hold the appropriate pilot certificate.

The camera is the main reason to buy. Mini 5 Pro combines a 50 MP 1-inch sensor, f/1.8 lens, 4K60 HDR, 4K120 slow motion, D-Log M, HLG and a 48 mm-equivalent Med-Tele mode in a highly portable body.

It also adds forward LiDAR, nightscape omnidirectional sensing, next-generation Smart RTH, upgraded ActiveTrack 360°, true vertical shooting and 42 GB of internal storage.

The “under 250 g” claim needs a Canadian operating-weight check

DJI lists approximately 249.9 g with a possible variation of ±4 g. Transport Canada uses actual operating weight, including anything attached or carried. Weigh the configured aircraft. At 250 g or more, it is no longer a microdrone.

Key facts

What changed the Mini platform

1-inch camera

A 50 MP 1-inch CMOS sensor with an f/1.8 lens improves light collection and gives the Mini platform a stronger low-light and dynamic-range workflow.

Night sensing

Omnidirectional binocular vision is supplemented by forward LiDAR and a downward infrared sensor for a more capable night-return and obstacle-sensing system.

Creative gimbal

True vertical capture and 225° roll rotation expand social-first shooting and controlled rotational moves.

Longer battery options

The standard battery is rated up to 36 minutes; Battery Plus is rated up to 52 minutes but changes the Canadian operating-weight category.

Camera and video

The 1-inch sensor is the main reason Mini 5 Pro earns the Pro name.

The 24 mm-equivalent f/1.8 camera records 50 MP or 12 MP photos and supports JPEG and DNG RAW.

Video reaches 4K60 in standard playback and 4K120 for slow motion. Supported H.265 modes include 10-bit Normal, D-Log M and HLG capture. The maximum listed bit rate is 130 Mbps.

DJI states up to 14 stops of HDR dynamic range in supported Auto video recording. That figure does not apply to slow motion or the 48 mm Med-Tele mode and should be treated as a controlled manufacturer maximum.

The 48 mm-equivalent 2× Med-Tele mode creates tighter framing for people, cabins, landscape layers and travel details. DJI states that its portrait optimization is available in Normal mode rather than HLG or D-Log M.

Vertical shooting and tracking

Mini 5 Pro is built for creators delivering both horizontal and vertical footage.

True vertical capture

The gimbal rotates the camera for native portrait footage instead of relying only on a crop from a horizontal frame.

225° roll rotation

Manual gimbal control and supported intelligent modes can create dynamic rotational shots beyond standard level-horizon footage.

Upgraded ActiveTrack 360°

DJI identifies different sports scenes and can select Standard or Cycling tracking behavior. Tracking remains an assistance feature, not permission to ignore the aircraft or surroundings.

Automated tracking does not replace the pilot

Keep the drone within visual line of sight, maintain situational awareness, choose a safe route and be ready to stop the aircraft. Thin branches, wires, low-texture surfaces, changing light and moving obstacles remain hazards.

Obstacle sensing and Smart RTH

LiDAR improves night awareness—but Mini 5 Pro is not collision-proof.

Vision system

Omnidirectional binocular vision covers the front, rear, sides, top and bottom when surfaces have sufficient texture and lighting.

Forward LiDAR

DJI lists a night measurement range of 0.5–25 m for targets with sufficient reflectivity. Dirt, strong light, rain and target properties affect detection.

Next-generation Smart RTH

In suitable lighting, the aircraft can memorize a route and support a return even when satellite signal is unavailable. Route memory and sensing have environmental requirements.

Set return altitude and inspect the route before takeoff

Smart RTH is a contingency tool. Confirm the home point, GNSS status, return altitude, obstacles, battery reserve and wind. Do not rely on obstacle sensing around wires, glass, water, narrow branches or low-contrast surfaces.

Battery choice and Canadian operating weight

Standard battery protects portability. Battery Plus prioritizes endurance.

Flying Mini 5 Pro in Canada

Microdrone rules are simpler—not rule-free.

Below 250 g

No registration or pilot certificate is required, but the aircraft must not be operated recklessly or negligently. Stay clear of aircraft, emergency sites and restricted airspace.

At least 250 g

Register and mark the drone and hold the certificate appropriate to the operation. Battery Plus and attached accessories can move the aircraft into this category.

Advertised events

Flying at an advertised event requires an SFOC-RPAS even for a microdrone. Do not assume small size authorizes concerts, festivals, sporting events or public gatherings.

  • Weigh the aircraft with the installed battery and every attached item.
  • Confirm airspace and nearby aerodromes before launch.
  • Stay away from emergency sites and active incident areas.
  • Maintain visual line of sight and yield to all aircraft.
  • Respect privacy, trespassing and local property rules.
  • Check wind, temperature, precipitation and return reserve.
  • Inspect propellers, battery condition, sensors and home point.
  • Use additional authorization where the operation requires it.

Transport Canada acceptability

Is DJI Mini 5 Pro acceptable for use under Transport Canada rules?

Yes. DJI Mini 5 Pro can be operated legally in Canada when the pilot follows the rules for its actual operating weight and planned operation. Transport Canada does not give a blanket consumer-drone “approval” that authorizes every type of flight.

Below 250 g: microdrone

When the aircraft’s actual operating weight remains below 250 g, it is a microdrone. Registration, a pilot certificate and an RPAS Safety Assurance declaration are not required. The pilot must still avoid reckless or negligent operation, restricted airspace, emergency sites and advertised events without the required authorization.

250 g or more: small drone

Battery Plus, guards or other attached equipment can move Mini 5 Pro to 250 g or more. The aircraft must then be registered and marked, and the pilot must hold the certificate appropriate to the operation. Basic operations do not require an RPAS Safety Assurance declaration when every Basic condition is met.

Advanced or Complex operations

For operations that require RPAS Safety Assurance—such as specific flights near or over people, in controlled airspace or under Level 1 Complex rules—the exact model and configuration must be listed by Transport Canada for the specific privilege. Check the live eligibility table before planning such an operation.

“Legal to own and fly” is not the same as “approved for every operation”

Mini 5 Pro is acceptable for Canadian use within the applicable category. Do not advertise it as universally “Transport Canada approved.” Eligibility depends on operating weight, airspace, distance from people, pilot certification and—where required—the current RPAS Safety Assurance listing.

Buyer fit

Mini 5 Pro is best for creators who need premium imaging without a larger travel platform.

Buy Mini 5 Pro

  • You prioritize a 1-inch sensor in a compact aircraft.
  • You deliver both horizontal and vertical content.
  • You value stronger night sensing and tracking.
  • You want a travel-friendly DJI platform.

Choose a larger drone

  • You need a second physical focal length.
  • You regularly fly in stronger wind or demanding weather.
  • You need enterprise mapping, RTK or inspection workflows.
  • Your projects justify a larger platform and operating category.

Keep your current Mini

  • Your present image quality already meets the deliverable.
  • You rarely shoot at night.
  • You do not need 225° rotation or improved tracking.
  • The upgrade would not change revenue or use frequency.

Frequently asked questions

DJI Mini 5 Pro Canada FAQ

How much does DJI Mini 5 Pro cost in Canada?

SpeedyDrone product records checked July 22, 2026 listed the standard DJI Mini 5 Pro at CAD $1,059, the Fly More Combo with RC-N3 at CAD $1,279, the Fly More Combo with DJI RC 2 at CAD $1,429, and the Fly More Combo Plus with DJI RC 2 at CAD $1,529. Bundle contents and inventory can change, so confirm the live product page before ordering.

Is DJI Mini 5 Pro under 250 grams in Canada?

DJI lists an approximate takeoff weight of 249.9 g with a possible variation of plus or minus 4 g. Transport Canada classifies a drone as a microdrone only when its actual operating weight is below 250 g. Anything attached or carried counts toward operating weight. Weigh the configured aircraft before flight and follow the rules that apply to its actual weight.

Does the Battery Plus keep Mini 5 Pro under 250 grams?

No. Battery Plus is substantially heavier than the standard battery and increases the aircraft’s operating weight above the microdrone threshold. In Canada, a drone operating at 250 g or more must be registered, and the pilot needs the certificate appropriate to the operation.

What camera does DJI Mini 5 Pro use?

Mini 5 Pro uses a 50 MP 1-inch CMOS camera with a 24 mm equivalent f/1.8 lens. It records up to 4K60 HDR and 4K120 slow motion, supports JPEG and DNG photos, and offers 10-bit D-Log M and HLG workflows in supported modes.

Does Mini 5 Pro have true vertical shooting?

Yes. Its three-axis gimbal supports true vertical shooting and up to 225 degrees of roll rotation. DJI also provides creative functions such as QuickShot Rotate, Timelapse, Spotlight and Waypoint for supported rotational shots.

Can Mini 5 Pro avoid obstacles at night?

Mini 5 Pro combines omnidirectional binocular vision with forward LiDAR and a downward infrared sensor. DJI states that nightscape omnidirectional sensing depends on the relevant lighting, textures, reflectivity and flight conditions. LiDAR improves frontal detection at night but does not make the drone collision-proof.

How long can DJI Mini 5 Pro fly?

DJI lists up to 36 minutes with the standard Intelligent Flight Battery and up to 52 minutes with Battery Plus under controlled tests that continue until forced landing. DJI also publishes more practical typical-flight references of approximately 21 minutes and 33 minutes respectively. Always plan a safe return and landing reserve.

Which Mini 5 Pro combo is best?

The RC-N3 Fly More Combo is the value choice for pilots comfortable using a phone. The DJI RC 2 Fly More Combo is better for a faster screen-ready setup. The Plus combo is best for longer sessions, but Battery Plus moves the aircraft above 250 g and changes the Canadian registration and certification requirements.

Is DJI Mini 5 Pro waterproof?

No. DJI states that Mini 5 Pro is not waterproof. Avoid rain, wet snow, fog condensation and water exposure. If unexpected rain begins, return and land as soon as practical, then allow the aircraft to dry fully before reuse.

Do I need a drone licence for Mini 5 Pro in Canada?

A microdrone operating below 250 g does not require registration or a pilot certificate, but it must still be flown safely and legally. At an operating weight of 250 g or more—such as with Battery Plus—the drone must be registered and the pilot needs the certificate appropriate to the operation. Advertised events and restricted airspace can require additional authorization regardless of weight.

Is DJI Mini 5 Pro approved or accepted by Transport Canada?

Mini 5 Pro can be legally operated in Canada, but Transport Canada does not issue a blanket approval for every operation. Below 250 g, it can operate under microdrone rules without registration, a pilot certificate or RPAS Safety Assurance. At 250 g or more, registration and the appropriate pilot certificate are required. Advanced or Complex operations may also require the exact model and configuration to appear in Transport Canada’s current RPAS Safety Assurance eligibility list.
