DJI Osmo Mobile 8P Standard vs Advanced Tracking Combo: Which Kit Should Canadian Creators Buy?

Creator buyer guide · Canada

Same core gimbal. One module changes the workflow.

Standard is the lean kit. Advanced adds the DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2 for cross-app tracking, gestures and light—not stronger motors or a different camera stabilizer.

Quick answer

Choose Standard Combo when Osmo FrameTap, DJI Mimo and your supported phone workflow already cover framing and tracking. Choose Advanced Tracking Combo when you repeatedly film hands-free in a native camera, livestream, video call or supported third-party camera app and need Module 2 tracking, gesture control or its built-in fill light.

The SpeedyDrone listings were CAD $219 and CAD $249 when checked August 10, 2026. The CAD $30 difference buys the included Module 2; it does not change the Osmo Mobile 8P gimbal itself.

Decision matrix

Buy the app workflow, not the longer accessory list.

Module tracking in native and selected third-party apps Requires a separately purchased compatible module Included hardware path

Approximate gimbal runtime claim About 10 hours under DJI's stated stationary test Same base claim; Module 2 use shortens runtime

What the checked CAD $30 difference really buys.

Module 2 adds an on-device perception and control layer. DJI lists tracking for people, cats, dogs, vehicles and manually selected objects, plus gesture control and an adjustable fill light. It attaches to Osmo Mobile 8P and works in phone-native, selected social, video-call and professional camera applications.

Important app boundary: DJI Support states that Module 2 intelligent tracking is not supported inside DJI Mimo. Mimo has its own gimbal tracking and creation tools. Advanced becomes valuable when the module solves a cross-app or light problem—not simply because “more tracking” sounds better.

Battery reality

The 10-hour headline is not the Advanced workflow runtime.

DJI's approximate 10-hour result is measured with the gimbal balanced, level and stationary, using Osmo FrameTap and no other accessories. DJI publishes about five hours with Module 2 intelligent tracking on and its fill light off, and about four hours with tracking on and the light at maximum brightness. Charging a phone from the gimbal also shortens runtime.

Planning rule: if Advanced is purchased for a long livestream or all-day tracking session, build the power plan around the module-use condition, phone consumption and breaks—not the no-accessory laboratory figure.

Buyer fit

Four creator profiles make the choice clear.

Travel and family creator

Choose Standard if most clips are guided by the person holding the gimbal or recorded through Mimo. The lighter packing list avoids paying for a module that stays in the pouch.

Solo presenter or livestreamer

Choose Advanced when the phone sits on the built-in tripod and Module 2 tracking or gesture control replaces a camera operator in supported apps.

Pet or product creator

Advanced is the stronger starting point when Module 2's on-device pet, vehicle or manual object tracking fits the shot. Object tracking still depends on clear outlines, contrast and sufficient subject size.

Existing Module owner

Check the exact compatible module already owned. If it delivers the required workflow, Standard may avoid duplicate hardware; confirm current DJI compatibility before purchase.

Before checkout

Run this compatibility check in order.

Confirm the phone is within DJI's recommended 170–300 g weight, 67–84 mm width and 6.9–11 mm thickness range, including the case. Then name the recording app and whether tracking comes from DJI Mimo, supported Apple DockKit behaviour or Module 2. Finally, decide whether gestures and fill light will be used often enough to justify the accessory and shorter real-world runtime.

Compare the live Standard Combo listing, the Advanced Tracking Combo listing and all current Osmo Mobile 8P options. If audio is part of the plan, remember that neither compared package lists a DJI Mic transmitter.

Osmo Mobile 8P Bundle FAQ

What is the main difference between Standard and Advanced Tracking Combo?

Advanced Tracking Combo adds DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2. The core Osmo Mobile 8P gimbal, Magnetic Phone Clamp 5, Osmo FrameTap, cables and storage pouch are listed in both packages.

Does Advanced Tracking Combo stabilize better than Standard?

No. Both packages use the same Osmo Mobile 8P core gimbal. Advanced adds tracking, gesture and fill-light hardware through Module 2, not a different stabilization system.

Does Standard Combo include DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2?

No. The current Standard packing list does not include Module 2. It is included in the Advanced Tracking Combo.

Does Module 2 tracking work inside DJI Mimo?

DJI Support states that intelligent tracking through the Multifunctional Module is not supported in DJI Mimo. Mimo uses its own tracking and creation functions.

Which apps can use Module 2 tracking?

DJI lists phone-native camera apps, selected social and livestream platforms, video calls and compatible professional camera apps. Exact app and phone support should be checked before purchase.

Will Osmo Mobile 8P run for 10 hours with Module 2 tracking?

No. DJI lists about five hours with Module 2 intelligent tracking on and fill light off, and about four hours with tracking on and the light at maximum brightness under its stated conditions.

Does Advanced Tracking Combo include a DJI microphone?

No DJI Mic transmitter is listed in the Advanced Tracking Combo. Buyers who need included wireless audio should compare the separate Creator Combo listing.

Were both combos available when checked in Canada?

Yes. Both SpeedyDrone listings showed available on August 10, 2026 at CAD $219 for Standard and CAD $249 for Advanced. Price and inventory can change.

Choose Advanced when Module 2 solves a recurring shot.

If native-camera or third-party-app tracking, hands-free gestures or a compact fill light are part of your normal workflow, Advanced is the complete two-part setup. Confirm current phone compatibility, price, stock and exact contents on the live listing.
