DJI Lito 1 vs Lito X1: is the X1 worth $100 more?

For most first-time flyers, the DJI Lito 1 is the better value. It keeps the approximately 249 g standard takeoff weight, 4K/60 video, 4K/100 slow motion, omnidirectional vision, O4 transmission and the same rated flight times. Spend the extra C$100 on the Lito X1 when its larger 1/1.3-inch camera, 4K/60 HDR, 10-bit D-Log M, forward LiDAR, 42GB internal storage or Waypoint Flight will change what you can capture—not simply because X1 is the higher model.

Upgrade reason no. 1
The Camera Is Where the Extra $100 Makes the Strongest Case
On paper, both cameras say 48 MP and 4K, but those headline numbers hide the most important difference. Lito X1 uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor behind a 24 mm-equivalent f/1.7 lens. Lito 1 uses a smaller 1/2-inch sensor with a 26.2 mm-equivalent f/1.8 lens. The X1 also focuses from 1 m instead of 4 m, which gives it more flexibility when a subject is closer to the aircraft.
The larger sensor does not make every sunny clip dramatically better. In clean daylight, many casual buyers will be pleased with Lito 1. The X1 earns its premium when contrast rises, light falls or editing becomes more ambitious. It supports 4K/60 HDR and DJI lists up to 14 stops of dynamic range in supported Auto video conditions. That figure does not apply to every format: DJI excludes slow motion and 2.7K at 48/50/60 fps from the stated maximum.
D-Log M is the clearer creator separator. X1 can record 10-bit D-Log M for a flatter starting point and more deliberate colour work. Lito 1 can record 10-bit H.265 in Normal colour, but it does not offer D-Log M. If you deliver straight from the app and rarely grade, that difference may be wasted. If you need to match drone footage with another DJI camera or protect highlight and colour flexibility in post, X1 is the more purposeful tool.

Upgrade reason no. 2
Forward LiDAR Helps the X1—It Does Not Make It Collision-Proof
Both drones already use an omnidirectional monocular vision system with downward infrared sensing. That matters because Lito 1 is not the “no obstacle sensing” option. In suitable light, its vision system can support omnidirectional Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems, or APAS 5.0, and intelligent flight functions.
Lito X1 adds forward LiDAR. Its practical value is extra forward sensing support when visible-light cameras have less useful detail, such as a dim return flight. DJI specifies a forward LiDAR measurement range of 0.5 to 36 m under defined reflectivity conditions. Small objects, low-reflectivity surfaces, transparent material, thin branches and difficult geometry can still be missed. Sensing performance also depends on light, texture, flight mode, speed and the environment.
Buy X1 for LiDAR if you regularly fly around dusk, return through shadow or want the extra sensing layer to support careful operation. Do not treat it as permission to fly faster, closer to branches or beyond your ability to see and control the aircraft. No consumer sensing system replaces route planning, adequate clearance and pilot judgment.

Upgrade reason no. 3
42GB Internal Storage Is a Small Feature Until It Saves a Shoot
Lito 1 has no internal storage, so a compatible microSD card is required to record on the aircraft. Lito X1 includes 42GB of internal storage and still accepts microSD. That is not a substitute for a disciplined card and backup routine, but it removes one common failure point: arriving with the card missing, locked in another camera or already full.
Lito 1 internal storage
Plan a microSD card before the first flight.
Lito X1 internal storage
Built-in fallback plus microSD expansion.
If you fly occasionally and keep a card installed, storage alone may not justify C$100. For paid shoots, family trips or a multi-camera bag, the fallback is operational insurance. The value is not the raw number of gigabytes; it is being able to record when the card workflow fails.
What stays the same
Do not pay extra for benefits both drones already share
- Approximately 249 g standard takeoff weight
- 48 MP still-photo resolution and JPEG/DNG support
- 4K/60 standard video and 4K/100 high-frame-rate recording
- Omnidirectional vision, FocusTrack, MasterShots and QuickShots
- DJI O4 transmission platform
- Up to 36 minutes with the standard battery
- Up to 52 minutes with the Plus battery under DJI test conditions
What the X1 actually adds
Pay for a better image and workflow ceiling
- Larger 1/1.3-inch sensor and wider f/1.7 lens
- 4K/60 HDR and 10-bit D-Log M
- Forward LiDAR
- 42GB internal storage
- Closer 1 m focus distance
- Waypoint Flight
- -10°C published operating minimum versus 0°C
Flight Time and O4 Range Are Not Upgrade Reasons
Both models carry the same published maximum flight-time figures: 36 minutes with the standard battery and 52 minutes with the Plus battery. Those are controlled-test maximums, not a promise for wind, cold, repeated manoeuvres or reserve-at-landing. Real flights should end with a safe margin.
The transmission platform is also shared. DJI’s headline distances—up to 15 km under IC conditions or 8 km under CE conditions—are laboratory references measured in unobstructed, interference-free environments. They are not a recommendation to fly that far, and they do not override Canadian operating rules or the need to maintain safe control. If your buying decision is based on flight time or transmission alone, Lito 1 gives you the same listed foundation for C$100 less.
Intelligent Modes: Mostly Shared, With One Useful X1 Exception
FocusTrack, MasterShots, QuickShots and Hyperlapse appear across the Lito family, so common subject-following and automated reveal shots are not reserved for the X1. DJI also documents APAS 5.0 support for both models. That makes Lito 1 more capable than a quick “entry model” label suggests.
Waypoint Flight is the notable X1-only workflow. It lets the pilot plan a route with repeatable points and actions. That can matter for recurring site documentation, controlled transitions or revisiting a scene with a similar camera path. It is not essential for a first travel drone, but it is a real reason to choose X1 when repeatability is part of the brief.
Canada-specific check
Both Are About 249 g—But Operating Weight Is What Counts
With the standard battery, DJI lists both Lito 1 and Lito X1 at approximately 249 g. Transport Canada treats a drone under 250 g operating weight as a microdrone. Registration and a drone pilot certificate are not required solely for a microdrone, but pilots must still avoid reckless or negligent operation and follow airspace and location restrictions.
The Plus battery takes either Lito model above 249 g. Accessories and other attachments also count toward operating weight. Do not buy the Plus battery and assume the aircraft stays in the under-250 g category because the box says “249 g.” Confirm the complete takeoff setup and use Transport Canada’s current rules for the flight you plan.
Simple rule: weigh the drone as it will actually take off—with the installed battery and attachments. The model name does not determine the operating category by itself.
This is practical buying guidance, not legal advice. Rules and airspace restrictions can change.
Four buyer profiles
Who Should Buy the Lito 1, and Who Should Buy the X1?
Value depends on whether the upgrade removes a real constraint in your shooting, not whether the specifications sound more advanced.
First drone or family travel: Lito 1
Choose Lito 1 when most clips will be captured in good daylight, edited quickly and shared without a colour-managed workflow. You keep the shared flight-time, transmission and core intelligent-flight platform while saving C$100 for a spare standard battery, microSD card or other setup needs.
Creator who grades footage: Lito X1
Choose X1 when D-Log M, 4K/60 HDR and the larger sensor will be used—not just admired on a comparison chart. It is the more flexible option for matching footage, protecting difficult highlights and building a repeatable post-production workflow.
Dusk and mixed-light flying: Lito X1
The larger sensor, brighter lens and forward LiDAR give X1 the stronger toolset as light becomes difficult. That does not remove the need for clearance or legal, visible operation, but it makes the C$100 easier to justify than it is for midday-only flying.
Budget buyer who wants the essentials: Lito 1
If 4K/60, 4K/100, tracking and omnidirectional vision already meet the brief, Lito 1 is not a compromise you must quickly outgrow. Add a reliable microSD card and build skill before paying for features you may never use.
Final verdict
Is the DJI Lito X1 Worth the Extra $100?
Yes—for creators and more demanding light. The larger sensor, HDR, D-Log M, LiDAR, closer focus, internal storage and Waypoint Flight form a meaningful upgrade package. Any two or three of those features can justify C$100 when they support work you already plan to do.
No—for many first-time and daylight flyers. Lito 1 preserves the core experience: approximately 249 g with its standard battery, the same rated flight time, O4 transmission, omnidirectional vision, 4K/60 and common intelligent modes. If you will leave X1 in Normal colour, fly only in clean daylight and always carry a microSD card, the extra spend will have little practical return.
The best answer is therefore not “X1 is better.” It is: Lito 1 wins on value; X1 wins on creative and operational headroom.
Frequently asked
DJI Lito 1 vs Lito X1 FAQ
Short answers for Canadian buyers deciding whether the X1 upgrades are worth C$100.
What is the main difference between DJI Lito 1 and Lito X1?
Lito X1 has the stronger camera and workflow package: a larger 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K/60 HDR, 10-bit D-Log M, forward LiDAR, 42GB internal storage, closer focus and Waypoint Flight. Lito 1 retains the shared lightweight platform, flight time, O4 transmission and core intelligent modes.
Is DJI Lito X1 worth $100 more in Canada?
It is worth C$100 more when you will use its larger sensor, HDR or D-Log M, fly carefully in difficult light where forward LiDAR is useful, need internal-storage backup or plan repeatable Waypoint routes. For daylight travel and casual sharing, Lito 1 is usually the better value.
Do Lito 1 and Lito X1 have the same flight time?
Yes. DJI lists up to 36 minutes with the standard battery and up to 52 minutes with the Plus battery for both models under controlled test conditions. Wind, temperature, manoeuvres and landing reserve reduce real flight time.
Does DJI Lito 1 have obstacle sensing?
Yes. Lito 1 uses an omnidirectional monocular vision system plus downward infrared sensing and supports APAS 5.0. Lito X1 adds forward LiDAR, but neither aircraft is collision-proof and both require adequate light, texture, clearance and pilot judgment.
Does Lito 1 record 10-bit video?
Lito 1 supports 10-bit H.265 recording in its Normal colour mode, but it does not provide D-Log M. Lito X1 adds 10-bit D-Log M for a flatter, more flexible grading workflow.
Can Lito 1 record without a microSD card?
No. DJI lists no internal storage for Lito 1, so a compatible microSD card is required for aircraft recording. Lito X1 includes 42GB of internal storage and also supports microSD expansion.
Are DJI Lito 1 and Lito X1 under 250 g in Canada?
DJI lists both at approximately 249 g with the standard battery. Transport Canada uses the actual operating weight, including the installed battery and attachments. The Plus battery takes either model above 249 g, so verify the complete takeoff setup and current rules.
Which Lito model is better for beginners?
Lito 1 is the stronger default for beginners who fly mainly in daylight and want the essential camera, tracking and sensing features at the lower price. X1 is better when the beginner already knows that difficult light, colour grading, storage backup or Waypoint Flight matters.
Which Lito model is better for low-light video?
Lito X1 is the better low-light choice because it combines a larger 1/1.3-inch sensor, a slightly brighter f/1.7 lens and forward LiDAR. Low-light image quality and sensing still depend on the scene, settings and safe operating conditions.
