Short answer: choose the DJI Power 1000 V2 for most home-backup, production and appliance use. It stores almost the same energy as the Mini, yet delivers far more output, recharges faster and can expand later. Choose the Power 1000 Mini when its 2.7kg weight saving, shorter body and integrated mobile-charging hardware will make a real difference every time you move it.

Two 1kWh stations, one surprisingly uneven decision

The names make these stations sound like small and large versions of the same idea. They are not. The Mini has 1008Wh of stored energy; the V2 has 1024Wh. That difference is less than two percent. The important gap is power delivery: the Mini is rated for 800W continuous output with a 1000W maximum, while DJI positions the V2 for 2600W continuous output under its stated test conditions.

Price makes that distinction more pointed in Canada. When checked on September 12, 2026, SpeedyDrone listed the Mini at C$649 and the V2 at C$599 on sale, down from C$699. That is a snapshot, not a promise. If the V2 remains cheaper when you buy, it is the obvious default for anyone who does not specifically need the Mini's smaller, lighter form.

The concept that prevents a bad purchase

Wh is runtime potential; W is what you can run

Watt-hours measure stored energy. Watts measure the rate at which a device asks for that energy. A 100W load theoretically consumes 100Wh in one hour, before conversion losses and other real-world effects. That is why these two stations can deliver broadly similar runtime at the same modest load: their batteries are nearly the same size.

WhHow much energy is stored

Think duration. Both models sit at roughly 1kWh, so neither gets a major runtime advantage from capacity alone.

WHow much power can flow now

Think compatibility and headroom. The V2 can support loads that exceed the Mini's 800W continuous rating.

A kettle, heater, compressor, saw or desktop workstation can demand far more power than a router, laptop or camera charger. Motor-driven and compressor devices can also pull a brief startup surge above their normal running wattage. Read the device label or use a plug-in power meter, then check both the normal draw and startup demand. “About 1kWh” never means “runs everything.”

If your main question is duration rather than compatibility, use the Power 1000 Mini runtime guide. It shows how to turn a measured load into a practical planning estimate without pretending every setup has the same efficiency.

Why the Mini exists

Its advantage is the kit you carry, not the energy you store

At about 11.5kg, the Mini is roughly 2.7kg lighter than the V2. It is also 134mm shorter. Those numbers matter if you repeatedly lift a station into a vehicle, walk it from a parking area to a set, fit it beneath a desk or pack around other camping equipment. They matter far less if the station will sit in one basement corner.

The built-in retractable USB-C cable removes one easy-to-forget item from a laptop or camera kit. The integrated 400W car-charging and MPPT functions can also simplify a mobile setup, although you still need the correct connection cable and compatible solar panels. Convenience comes from carrying less conversion hardware, not from every accessory being included.

  • Strong fit for laptops, phones, routers, monitors, camera gear, lights and projectors.
  • Good for solo creators whose combined load stays comfortably within the 800W continuous envelope.
  • Not the right choice when future battery expansion or high-draw appliances are central to the plan.

Why the V2 is the default

2600W changes appliance compatibility more than 16Wh changes runtime

The V2's 1024Wh capacity is only slightly larger than the Mini's 1008Wh. Its 2600W continuous-output rating is the reason to buy it. That headroom can support higher-draw appliances, tools and several devices whose combined load would exceed the Mini's 800W continuous ceiling. It also leaves more margin when a setup evolves after purchase.

Turnaround is quicker: DJI reports 37 minutes from zero to 80% and 56 minutes to full in its test conditions. Two USB-C ports can each deliver up to 140W with compatible PD 3.1/EPR devices and cables, which is useful when two laptops or high-power USB-C devices need charging at once.

Expansion is the other structural advantage. V2 can connect to as many as five compatible expansion batteries for a stated total of up to 11,264Wh. You do not need to buy that capacity now. The value is keeping the option open. The tradeoff is more weight today and more accessory cost if you use the broader car, solar or expansion ecosystem later.

Which model fits your actual setup?

Start with the heaviest carry and highest wattage you expect—not the easiest device on your list.

Likely winner: Mini

Solo creator or mobile office

A laptop, camera batteries, phone, compact monitor and modest LED lighting can fit the Mini's strengths. Its retractable cable and smaller chassis reduce setup friction. Add the wattage of everything you may run simultaneously; if the total approaches 800W or you expect larger lights and desktop hardware, V2 buys useful margin.

Depends on the load

Camping and road trips

Mini is easier to pack and move for electronics, connectivity, lights and lower-power campsite devices. V2 is safer when cooking gear, heaters, compressors or several loads enter the plan. Never choose from an appliance category alone: two “camping appliances” can have completely different running and startup demands.

Likely winner: V2

Home backup

For a router, modem, phones and a laptop, both can work and stored energy is similar. V2 becomes preferable when the backup list includes more devices, higher draw or the possibility of expansion. Treat either station as a planned backup system, not a whole-home promise, and confirm the power requirement of every critical device.

Winner: V2

Tools, appliances and production

High-output lighting, desktop workstations, tools and appliance-heavy workflows point to V2. Its output ceiling, dual high-power USB-C ports and faster recharge are more valuable than the Mini's carry advantage when downtime or load rejection would interrupt paid work.

Five-minute load check

Do this before you order either station

  1. List simultaneous devices. Include the items that may overlap, not everything you own.
  2. Find running watts. Check labels, manuals or measured consumption. Use the highest credible setting.
  3. Check startup surge. Refrigeration, pumps, compressors and motor-driven tools may momentarily draw much more.
  4. Add headroom. Do not plan a working setup exactly at the station's published ceiling.
  5. Separate output from runtime. After compatibility is confirmed, estimate duration from Wh, real load and sensible loss assumptions.

Drone charging deserves its own compatibility check because direct SDC workflows depend on the aircraft battery and cable. The DJI Power SDC fast-charging guide owns that detail. For a buyer who has outgrown the 1kWh class entirely, compare the Power 1000 V2 with Power 2000.

Final verdict

Buy the feature you will use every week

At the September 12 price snapshot, Power 1000 V2 is the stronger value for most shoppers because it was C$50 less than the Mini while offering much higher output, faster AC recharge, dual 140W USB-C ports and an expansion path. A later price change could narrow that conclusion, but it would not erase the underlying platform difference.

Choose Power 1000 Mini if…

You carry the station often, your real simultaneous load stays below 800W with headroom, and a shorter body, retractable cable and integrated mobile-input hardware remove meaningful bulk from the kit.

Choose Power 1000 V2 if…

You want greater appliance compatibility, two high-power USB-C ports, faster turnaround or any chance of adding expansion batteries. It is the safer default when you are uncertain how the setup may grow.

Buyer questions

DJI Power 1000 Mini vs V2 FAQ

Does the Power 1000 V2 last longer than the Power 1000 Mini?

Not dramatically at the same modest load. Their stored energy is close—1024Wh versus 1008Wh—so real runtime should be broadly similar when the devices, conditions and conversion losses are similar. V2's big advantage is output capability, not a much larger battery.

What is the main difference between Power 1000 Mini and Power 1000 V2?

Mini prioritizes lower weight, a shorter chassis and integrated mobile-charging convenience. V2 prioritizes 2600W continuous output, faster recharge, dual 140W USB-C ports and expansion batteries.

Can Power 1000 Mini run a heater, kettle or power tool?

Only if the device's real continuous draw and startup surge fit the Mini's supported output. Many heaters, kettles and tools exceed its 800W continuous rating, so check the exact device rather than its category.

Is 2600W the same as 2600Wh?

No. Watts describe how much power can be delivered at a moment; watt-hours describe stored energy. Power 1000 V2 is rated at 2600W continuous output and has 1024Wh of battery capacity.

Which model is easier to carry?

Power 1000 Mini. DJI lists it at approximately 11.5kg versus 14.2kg for V2, and the Mini is 134mm shorter. Whether that matters depends on how often and how far you move it.

Can the Power 1000 Mini use an expansion battery?

No. DJI says the Mini cannot expand with the Power Expansion Battery 2000. Power 1000 V2 supports up to five compatible expansion batteries for a stated maximum system capacity of 11,264Wh.

Which model is better for laptops and creator gear?

Mini is compelling for a portable, lower-power solo kit. V2 is better when several high-power USB-C devices, larger lights, desktops or other production loads may run together. Add the simultaneous wattage before deciding.

Do car and solar charging accessories come with both stations?

Do not assume every cable, panel or adapter is included. Mini integrates the mobile-charge and MPPT functions, while V2 uses its modular DJI Power accessory ecosystem. Check the exact box contents and required cable for your vehicle or panels.

Which one should Canadian buyers choose at current SpeedyDrone prices?

At the September 12, 2026 snapshot—C$649 for Mini and C$599 sale for V2—V2 is the default value choice. Mini is worth paying more only when its lower weight, shorter size and integrated conveniences solve a recurring portability problem. Recheck live prices and fulfilment timing before ordering.
