News & analysis · Canadian buying decisions
The new videos give Canadians more to examine, but they do not yet answer whether Neo 3 is worth waiting for. Choose Neo 2 if its known capabilities meet your needs and its delivery timing works. Wait if the reported camera or compact controller would change your purchase.
Checked October 8, 2026 · Neo 3 information below is reported and unverified; Neo 2 specifications are published DJI information.
We could not verify an official Neo 3 announcement or Canadian product listing in the DJI sources checked for this article. There is no confirmed Canadian launch date or price to build a purchase around. This is an assessment of the DJI Neo 3 leak reports, followed by a practical buy-or-wait decision—not a review of a drone we have tested.
The reporting timeline
What happened this week?
-
DroneXL reported a leaked marketing sheet attributed to Igor Bogdanov. Its camera claims include a square 1/1.1-inch sensor and native vertical capture.
-
A 49-second unboxing report described an apparent aircraft, screen-equipped RC Mini, charging hub and three batteries. That is an observed-looking kit, not an official Canadian bundle list.
-
A 91-second flight report described pairing, takeoff, a short hover and landing. The external phone recording does not show original footage captured by the drone.
-
A later battery-label report suggested a changed battery system. Final accessory compatibility and flight duration remain unverified.
These are publication dates, not a DJI launch schedule. Multiple stories draw on related social posts and reposted material; their number does not make them independent official confirmations.
Reading the evidence
What the leaked videos actually show
The important distinction is between seeing something happen and knowing what the finished product can do. DroneXL describes a physical-looking aircraft operating with the apparent RC Mini. The reported screen and rear wheel are interesting clues about the control experience, but they do not establish the wheel’s function, supported aircraft or a final controller specification.
A short hover is also a limited test. It cannot tell a buyer how tracking recovers after losing a subject, how footage holds up in difficult light or what usable flight time remains after a sensible landing reserve. Those are the questions that matter when deciding whether to replace an existing drone.
We have not independently authenticated the original clips or tested the apparent device. The reports justify following the story; they do not justify presenting every visible-looking detail as a confirmed DJI feature.

Published facts beside reported claims
Neo 2 vs reported Neo 3
This is a status comparison, not a performance ranking. The two columns deliberately use different evidence labels. Neo 3 has too many open questions for a scored head-to-head review.
On a narrow screen, scroll the table sideways to see both models.
| Question | DJI Neo 2 — published | Neo 3 — reported / unverified |
|---|---|---|
| Product status | Released product with published DJI documentation | No official announcement verified in sources checked |

Specifications checked October 8, 2026 against DJI’s Neo 2 specifications. Maximum endurance was measured in controlled conditions to battery depletion, without the Digital Transceiver; it is not a planned shooting duration. Actual weight and performance vary. Neo 3 entries refer to the linked reports above.

The camera decision
Is a larger sensor worth waiting for?
If portrait delivery is central to your work, the reported square-sensor approach is a reason to wait for documentation. The useful question is which recording modes survive the actual workflow: framing a moving person, stabilizing the clip, exporting vertically and delivering it at the resolution your client or channel needs.
Sensor dimensions alone do not answer that. Before paying more, compare original files in the modes you will use. Look at a face against a bright sky, fine detail during movement and the edges after stabilization. Ask whether the vertical mode gives you the composition you wanted without an awkward crop.
For casual travel clips, do the opposite test: identify something your current setup cannot produce. If you cannot name the missing result, waiting for a larger number on a spec sheet may not improve your next trip. Neo 2 already has documented recording options; the table provides a concrete starting point for judging whether they are sufficient.
Ownership cost
Will your Neo 2 accessories work with Neo 3?
Do not budget on the assumption that they will. The late October 7 report points to a different battery system, but DJI has not provided a compatibility list we could verify. A photograph of a label is not a safe basis for choosing a charger or fitting a pack into another aircraft.
For an existing owner, make a short inventory of the equipment you hope to reuse: batteries, charging hub, conventional controller, goggles and carrying case. At announcement time, check each exact model against DJI’s list. Similar names and connectors are not confirmation.
Compare the total usable setup, not just the aircraft price. A new drone that needs replacement batteries and control equipment is a different purchase from a drone that fits equipment you already own. Wait for that total before deciding an upgrade is good value. Meanwhile, avoid buying extra Neo 2 accessories solely because you expect them to carry forward.
Our buying assessment
Should Canadians buy Neo 2 now or wait?
Start with your filming date, then the missing capability. That order prevents an uncertain announcement from becoming the only thing you use to make the decision.

Match the purchase to the constraint
Consider Neo 2 if its documented modes fit. Confirm the selected kit’s actual arrival or pickup date before committing.
Wait for official Neo 3 specifications if the reported camera or RC Mini would change your choice. Accept that price and timing remain unknown.
Keep using it unless it misses a named result. Decide after original camera samples, compatibility and the complete upgrade cost are available.
For a first drone, a fixed budget is another reason to compare a complete current kit. Leave room for the equipment your chosen control method requires. A lower aircraft price is less useful if it excludes the remote or spare batteries you wanted.
If you can wait comfortably, set evidence-based buying conditions: an official Canadian offer, a suitable vertical recording mode and acceptable total kit cost, for example. Avoid setting a deadline from a rumoured launch date. If you want to compare available models instead, our Neo 2 vs Lito X1 buying guide addresses that separate decision.

DJI Neo 3 Canada FAQ
Has DJI officially announced Neo 3?
We could not verify an official announcement in the DJI sources checked on October 8, 2026. The reported videos and marketing material remain leaks. Treat the apparent product name, final features and retail configurations as unconfirmed until DJI publishes them.
What is the DJI Neo 3 release date in Canada?
No Canadian release date was verified for this article. A clip appearing online does not establish a Canadian sales or shipping date. If you need a drone for a fixed event, base the decision on a confirmed fulfillment date for a product you can actually order.
How much will DJI Neo 3 cost in Canada?
There is no confirmed Canadian price in the sources checked. Compare the eventual aircraft and complete-kit prices separately. Include any batteries, hub or controller you would need to replace before deciding that an upgrade fits your budget.
Does the first-flight video prove better camera quality?
No. The reported flight clip is an external phone view of the aircraft, not original onboard camera footage. It cannot establish recorded detail, dynamic range, stabilization quality or vertical-video performance. Those need original samples and confirmed recording settings.
Will Neo 2 batteries or controllers work with Neo 3?
Compatibility is not officially verified here. The reported battery changes are a reason to avoid assuming reuse. Check DJI’s final list for each exact battery, hub and controller model; do not infer compatibility from appearance or the shared Neo name.
Will Neo 3 be under 250 g in Canada?
That cannot be established from the reported weight alone. Transport Canada defines a microdrone by an operating weight below 250 g, including items attached to or carried by the aircraft. Wait for official configuration information and verify the setup you will fly. A leaked figure is not a basis for exemption claims.
Does a microdrone mean I can fly anywhere?
No. Transport Canada prohibits reckless or negligent operation and entry into restricted airspace without permission, and requires an SFOC for advertised-event operations even with a microdrone. Other applicable laws, including privacy and trespassing laws, still apply. Check the official rules for your intended location.
Should I wait if I already own Neo 2?
Wait to make the upgrade decision if your current drone still meets your needs. Write down the result it cannot deliver, then check whether the announced product solves it. Add compatibility, real camera samples and total setup cost to that assessment before replacing equipment.
Canadian rules checked October 8, 2026: Transport Canada’s microdrone guidance. This brief FAQ does not establish operating permission for a specific flight.
The next useful update
What would change this assessment?
An official announcement would let us replace the reported column with documented information. The purchasing advice should then be checked against:
- Canadian price, release timing and the exact kit contents.
- Recording modes and original camera samples relevant to your output.
- Flight-time test conditions, practical limitations and operating weight.
- Explicit accessory and controller compatibility.
Until those details are available, buy for a task you can define and a date a retailer can confirm. Waiting is reasonable when a specific promised-looking improvement matters enough to accept an unknown price and schedule.
Need a Neo 2 kit for a specific date?
Tell SpeedyDrone how you plan to film, which equipment you already own and when you need it. Ask us to confirm the suitable package and fulfillment timing.
Ask about Neo 2 availability. No Neo 3 preorder or delivery commitment is offered in this article.
