Which O4 Air Unit Pro Setup Should You Choose?

Choose around the equipment you already own. The air unit provides the video system; your goggles, control link and airframe determine the rest of the shopping list. The following are compatible setup paths, not promises that every component is currently available from one store.

New DJI build: Goggles 3 + FPV Remote Controller 3

Choose this combination if you want the DJI control route and Goggles 3’s lowest published O4 Pro latency reference. It is the relevant option for comparing DJI’s 15 ms Racing Mode figure. You still need a suitable flight controller, power supply, frame and SBUS configuration.

Alternative new build: Goggles N3 + FPV Remote Controller 3

Goggles N3 offers another supported route into O4 Pro. If you are working to a budget, compare the current cost and fit of the goggles before deciding. N3 compatibility does not mean identical latency: DJI lists 19 ms, rather than 15 ms, for the Pro’s Racing Mode reference with N3. DJI latency conditions.

Keep your existing Goggles 2 or Integra

You do not have to replace these goggles to buy O4 Pro. Use DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 if you want DJI radio control, or retain your independent radio and receiver. Upgrading the video unit can therefore be a smaller change than replacing the whole control ecosystem.

Keep your ELRS or Crossfire radio

Use O4 Pro for video and a separate compatible receiver for aircraft control. Buying a DJI FPV Remote Controller is optional on this path. Which Remote Controllers Work With O4 Air Unit Pro?

DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 and DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 work in their respective goggles pairings. Their names are not interchangeable, and “DJI controller” is not a broad compatibility category.

DJI does not list cross-generation combinations such as Goggles 2 + FPV Remote Controller 3 here. Nor does this list establish support for DJI RC 2, RC-N-series or Motion controllers. Can You Use ELRS With DJI O4 Air Unit Pro?

Yes, with a separate compatible receiver. DJI supports third-party radio protocols through an additional receiver. ELRS and Crossfire are examples of independent control systems: the radio talks to its own receiver, while the O4 unit carries video to supported DJI goggles.

Configure the receiver according to its manufacturer and flight-controller documentation. Do not apply the DJI-controller SBUS instruction to every third-party receiver just because O4 video is installed. This is a separation of functions, not proof that any receiver works with any board. Does O4 Air Unit Pro Work With Betaflight?

Yes. DJI officially lists Betaflight 4.3.0 and later. That is a software requirement, not a blanket approval of every board. Check your board’s connection diagram, usable serial ports, power output and receiver setup. DJI flight-controller support.

For example, Goggles N3 + FPV Remote Controller 3 + Betaflight 4.5 on a 5-inch build is a supported ecosystem/version combination. You can shortlist O4 Pro, but should order only after confirming that the exact frame fits, the power supply is suitable and DJI radio control is configured for SBUS.

Does O4 Air Unit Pro Work With INAV?

Yes, subject to firmware requirements. DJI’s support article lists INAV 8.0.1 and later, identifying O4 firmware v01.00.02.00 for that support. It also states that INAV OSD is supported after updating the Air Unit and compatible goggles to their latest firmware. DJI INAV support note.

That version is a support milestone, not a recommendation to install old firmware. The Pro release notes checked for this guide list v01.00.07.00 dated July 2, 2026. Recheck DJI’s downloads and release notes at setup time, and update the goggles as well as the air unit. A video feed alone does not confirm that the OSD data you need is displaying correctly.

Do You Need SBUS With a DJI FPV Remote Controller?

Yes. DJI requires the flight-control protocol to be configured for SBUS when using a DJI FPV Remote Controller. This is how the flight controller receives the DJI control input in the supported setup. Video reception and stick input must both be checked; having a picture in the goggles is not the same as having the receiver configured correctly. DJI SBUS requirement.

Can DJI O4 Air Unit Pro Directly Replace an O3 Air Unit?

Not necessarily. DJI states that the O4 and O3 transmission and camera modules have different dimensions. An “O3-compatible” frame label therefore does not establish direct O4 Pro fit. Some accessory compatibility exists, but that does not make every O3 part reusable. DJI lists shared 3-in-1 cables and, for O4 Pro, video-transmission antennas, while excluding the camera module, transmission module, ND filters and camera coaxial cable. Verify the exact part before adding or removing it from your order.

What Battery Voltage Does O4 Air Unit Pro Support?

DJI specifies a 7.4–26.4 V input range. Check the voltage actually delivered to the air unit, including the regulator output and the battery’s fully charged voltage where relevant. Nominal battery labels alone are not enough to approve the installation. DJI electrical specification.

This guide does not treat “2S–6S” as a universal compatibility promise. A battery label cannot confirm wiring, regulation or power quality, and the standard O4’s electrical requirements should not be copied into an O4 Pro build.

Which O4 Air Unit Pro Specs Actually Matter?

The larger sensor, recording modes and storage options matter when they change your finished footage. DJI specifies a 1/1.3-inch sensor and a 155° lens field of view. Those are useful starting points for a cinematic build, but camera angle, stabilization and recording settings still affect the image you deliver.

4K/120fps is available in 16:9; 4K in 4:3 reaches 60fps. D-Log M provides a colour-grading option. If you normally publish directly without grading or slow motion, decide whether those features justify the additional size and weight in your aircraft. DJI recording specifications.

The 15 ms claim is a specific transmission reference. DJI measures it with Goggles 3 in Racing Mode at 1080p/100fps, in an open outdoor environment without interference. It describes minimum latency during goggles screen refresh. It is not a promise of total stick-to-aircraft response, and Racing Mode fixes recording and transmission at 1080p/100fps. Storage is another practical difference: Pro has 4GB built in and supports microSD cards up to 512GB. Plan the recording media alongside the hardware. Also note that DJI limits the shooting angle to Standard when RockSteady is enabled, so the advertised lens FOV does not describe every stabilized recording mode. What Does DJI O4 Air Unit Pro Not Support?

No, compatibility is not unlimited. The official support boundaries rule out several common assumptions:

• Third-party goggles are not supported.
• Any DJI remote or any goggles/controller generation is not automatically compatible.
• An O3 frame is not automatically a direct O4 Pro fit.
• Versions below DJI’s listed Betaflight minimum are not covered by its support statement.
• DJI radio control still requires correct SBUS configuration.
• Neither a frame’s propeller size nor a battery label guarantees physical or electrical fit.
• Transmission capability does not grant permission for unrestricted FPV flight.

What Should You Check Before Buying?

Write down the exact parts and versions first. For an existing build, photograph the camera bay and video-transmitter mounting area, then compare them with the Pro’s specifications.

• Goggles and controller: exact model names and the supported pairing, or your independent radio/receiver combination.
• Flight controller: board model, Betaflight or INAV version, available connections and receiver configuration.
• Camera bay: width, side mounting and lens clearance at your intended camera angle.
• Module bay: dimensions, mounting points and room above connectors.
• Cables and antennas: route lengths, bend clearance and secure placement for both antennas.
• Cooling: a ventilated position; avoid enclosing the module without airflow.
• Power: actual supply/regulator output within 7.4–26.4 V.
• Order readiness: current availability, required accessories and pickup or shipping timing.

DJI’s installation guidance emphasizes heat dissipation and careful coaxial-cable routing. Keep the ground low-power setting and cooling guidance in mind during setup, not just in flight. DJI installation and cooling guidance.

Can You Legally Fly an O4 FPV Build in Canada?

Yes, when the aircraft and operation meet the applicable rules. Video-system compatibility does not grant flight permission. Use the completed aircraft’s operating weight, including its battery and installed equipment, to identify the relevant requirements. Check airspace, operating category, registration and pilot certification where applicable, and the visual-line-of-sight and observer requirements for the operation.

Transport Canada’s current guidance states that for an aircraft weighing 250 g or more, FPV use requires a visual observer to perform detect-and-avoid functions throughout the flight. Lighter aircraft still have safety obligations. An advertised transmission distance is neither a legal flight radius nor permission for BVLOS operation.
