DJI Power SDC Fast Charging Explained: Which DJI Drone Batteries Can You Charge in the Field?

DJI drone field charging · Canada

Match the aircraft, cable and power station before the field day.

SDC fast charging can shorten the charging path for selected DJI flight batteries—but the correct route depends on the exact aircraft family, battery or hub, cable and compatible DJI Power model.

Quick answer: compatible DJI Power stations can do more than run a normal AC drone charger. With the correct aircraft-specific SDC fast-charge cable—or DJI's newer cable-and-hub route—selected Mavic 3, Air 3/3S, Matrice 30, Inspire 3, Matrice 4, Mavic 4 Pro and Matrice 4D batteries can use DJI's dedicated DC charging ecosystem. Compatibility is not universal: confirm the aircraft family, battery or hub, cable, Power model and current firmware together.

What Is DJI Power SDC Fast Charging?

SDC is DJI's dedicated DC connection used on compatible DJI Power equipment and accessories. For a drone operator, its value is not the acronym; it is the more direct equipment path between stored energy and a supported flight battery.

Conventional AC route

Power is converted before reaching the battery system

  • Power station battery
  • DC-to-AC inverter
  • Wall charger
  • Drone charger or hub
  • Flight battery
Dedicated SDC route

A compatible DJI cable connects the supported battery workflow

  • DJI Power
  • SDC interface
  • Matching fast-charge cable
  • Battery or hub
  • Flight battery

That dedicated route can reduce the charging hardware carried for some aircraft, provide high charging power to supported batteries and fit neatly into a field rotation. The same station can still serve controllers, computers, lights and other electronics. This does not establish a fixed efficiency advantage over every AC setup, however; DJI does not give one universal percentage that applies across all aircraft, chargers, loads and temperatures.

Compatibility rule: match five items—not one: the aircraft family, battery or charging hub, fast-charge cable, DJI Power station and current firmware. A connector that looks similar is not evidence of compatibility.

DJI Power Drone Fast-Charging Compatibility Chart

The table below maps the currently documented routes most relevant to SpeedyDrone customers. Charging figures are DJI laboratory or reference results under stated conditions; they are not guaranteed field times.

DJI aircraft family Battery / charging system Required DJI Power charging path Official charging reference
Mavic 3 Series Intelligent Flight Battery Mavic 3 Series SDC fast-charge cable 150W; about 58 min 0–100% or 32 min 10–95%

Matrice 4D Series Compatible battery and charging hub DJI Power Fast Charge Cable for Drones plus compatible hub Supported; no directly comparable time is stated in the source checked

Notice that the Matrice 4 reference uses 10–90%, not 10–95%. That difference matters: manufacturer figures with different endpoints are not identical head-to-head tests.

Aircraft-specific paths

Mavic 3 Series: 150W SDC Fast Charging

DJI rates the Mavic 3 Series SDC fast-charge cable at 150W. Its reference times are approximately 58 minutes from 0% to 100% and 32 minutes from 10% to 95% under DJI's conditions. Official compatibility covers the Mavic 3 Series, Mavic 3 Classic, Mavic 3 Pro Series, Mavic 3 Enterprise Series and Mavic 3 Multispectral Edition.

150Wcable output
≈ 32 min10–95% reference
≈ 58 min0–100% reference

That keeps this route relevant to creator aircraft and to enterprise users of the Mavic 3E, Mavic 3T and Mavic 3M. It does not mean every aircraft with “Mavic” in its name uses this cable.

Air 3 and Air 3S: 125W Fast Charging

For Air 3-family batteries, DJI's dedicated cable is rated at 125W. DJI gives approximately 44 minutes from 0% to 100% and 30 minutes from 10% to 95%. The route is especially relevant to a compact creator kit: the aircraft, a small battery pool, the correct cable and a portable Power station can travel as one coordinated system.

For DJI Air 3S, DJI says compatible Power equipment may need the latest firmware. That makes firmware a pre-deployment check, not an assumption. SpeedyDrone also carries the DJI Power SDC to Air 3 Series fast-charge cable; confirm current availability when planning the kit.

Before leaving: update compatible equipment in a controlled setting, connect the actual battery and cable, and confirm that charging starts normally. A remote site is the wrong place to discover a firmware dependency.

Matrice 30 Series: Why SDC Matters for Enterprise Battery Rotation

The Matrice 30 Series cable is rated at 230W and works with the TB30 Intelligent Flight Battery. DJI's references are about 47 minutes from 0% to 100% and 32 minutes from 10% to 95%. Those numbers matter, but the operational value appears when a crew stops treating one battery as the whole system.

Battery AFlying
Battery BCooling
Battery CCharging
Battery DReady

For inspection, emergency response, public safety, mapping and infrastructure teams using the Matrice 30T, that rotation can reduce idle time when the crew, mission plan and available Power capacity support it. It does not create unlimited endurance: each landing still consumes energy from the station, and battery cooling, site moves, checks and mission reserves remain part of the day.

Inspire 3: Fast-Charging TB51 Batteries on Location

DJI's Inspire 3 SDC cable is rated at 200W and carries a reference time of approximately 28 minutes from 10% to 95% for a TB51 Intelligent Battery. For an Inspire 3 camera team, DJI Power can therefore become part of the aerial-production battery cart rather than only a generic AC power box.

A location workflow still needs enough TB51 batteries, a cool and protected charging position, camera and controller power, data-management gear and a realistic shooting schedule. SpeedyDrone carries the Inspire 3 SDC fast-charge cable; current availability should be checked before the production day.

Matrice 4E / 4T: Dedicated 200W SDC Charging

DJI offers a dedicated 200W SDC fast-charge cable for the Matrice 4 Series. DJI's current accessory page gives about 48 minutes from 0% to 100% and about 31 minutes from 10% to 90% for the Matrice 4 battery system. That gives Matrice 4E and Matrice 4T crews a dedicated field route alongside their normal charging equipment.

Mavic 4 Pro and DJI's New Charging-Hub Fast-Charge Workflow

DJI also lists a newer product called the DJI Power Fast Charge Cable for Drones. Instead of plugging an aircraft-family cable directly into a flight battery system, it connects supported DJI Power equipment to a compatible charging hub through the Mini SDC architecture.

Aircraft-specific model

Dedicated cable route

Power station → aircraft-family SDC cable → battery or battery system

Examples include the Mavic 3, Air 3, Matrice 30, Inspire 3 and Matrice 4 cable families.

Newer hub model

Cable-and-hub route

Power station → DJI Power Fast Charge Cable for Drones → compatible charging hub → flight batteries

DJI currently lists Mavic 4 Pro and Matrice 4D Series support for this route.

DJI's current cable page lists compatibility with the Mavic 4 Pro, Matrice 4D Series, DJI Power 1000 Mini, DJI Power 1000 V2 and DJI Power 2000. It does not provide a directly comparable Mavic 4 Pro or Matrice 4D charging-time figure, so this guide does not manufacture one. Nor should this route be treated as proof that every future aircraft will use the same architecture.

Charging behaviour

Why Does DJI Quote 10% to 95% Charging Times?

DJI explains that the final approximately 5% of charging uses a slower trickle-charge stage. That is why many DJI fast-charge references highlight 10% to 95%: the figure describes the faster operating window without pretending the slowest final portion does not exist.

If an organization's procedures and mission allow it, returning a battery to approximately 95% may offer a faster field-turnaround trade-off than waiting for 100%. It is not a universal instruction. Battery planning must still include expected flight duration, return-to-home margin, the operator's reserve requirement, wind and weather, temperature, aircraft condition, battery health and emergency contingency. A short, low-risk capture and a remote infrastructure flight do not have the same energy plan.

Do not compare unlike endpoints: a 10–95% time cannot be compared as though it were a 0–100% time, and the Matrice 4 cable's cited 10–90% reference is a different test window again.

Can You Fast-Charge a DJI Battery Immediately After Landing?

Not necessarily. A flight battery may be too warm immediately after use to enter its proper charging-temperature range. On the official Mavic 3, Air 3, Matrice 30, Inspire 3 and Matrice 4 SDC cable pages checked for this guide, DJI recommends allowing the battery to cool below approximately 40°C / 104°F before charging.

Practical thermal sequence
  • Fly
  • Land and inspect
  • Cool
  • Fast charge
  • Ready
  • Fly

Fast-charge support therefore does not mean zero cooling time. Provide shade and airflow appropriate to the site, keep terminals clean and dry, and follow the battery's current DJI safety guidance. Do not force an overheated battery into a charging schedule simply because another battery is still flying.

SDC Fast Charging vs Plugging a Normal DJI Charger Into AC

AC route

Familiar and broadly flexible

  • May use charging equipment the operator already owns.
  • Can power many non-drone devices from the same AC outlets.
  • Requires the normal AC charger or hub and its cabling.
  • Charging power depends on that charger, battery system and conditions.
SDC route

Purpose-built for supported DJI batteries

  • Provides a dedicated DJI field-charging path.
  • Can remove the AC charger from some supported setups.
  • Supports high charging power on documented aircraft families.
  • Requires the exact cable or hub route and is not universal.

Neither route is automatically better. A team with a proven AC hub and several other AC loads may value flexibility. A crew building a compact DJI-specific rotation may prefer SDC. The right decision follows the aircraft, the number of batteries, the other devices on the station and the redundancy required at the site—not a generic claim about one connector.

Multiple SDC-oriented workflows DJI Power 2000 Two complete SDC ports; verify each connected accessory and total load
Camping / creator use plus occasional drone charging DJI Power 1000 Mini Portability is likely to matter more than maximum output

This is a starting-point table, not a substitute for an energy budget. A nominal station capacity divided by a battery's rated energy is not a guaranteed recharge count. Starting state of charge, conversion losses, station reserve, battery temperature, simultaneous loads, charging electronics, battery condition and environment all change the result. For capacity planning, use SpeedyDrone's Power 1000 Mini runtime guide. For station-level differences, see the Power 1000 V2 versus Power 2000 guide.

Operational workflow

How to Build a Practical Drone Battery-Rotation Workflow

Three or more flight batteries can materially improve a field station's usefulness because cooling, charging and flying can happen as separate stages. The point is to build a stable cycle—not to chase a theoretical maximum.

  1. Start the mission with several inspected, charged batteries and a charged Power station.
  2. Fly Battery A within the approved mission plan and required reserve.
  3. After landing, inspect Battery A and allow it to cool in an appropriate protected location.
  4. Fly Battery B while Battery A moves through the cooling stage.
  5. When Battery A reaches the acceptable charging-temperature range, connect the correct SDC cable or hub.
  6. Continue the rotation without mixing incompatible cables, hubs or battery families.
  7. Monitor both aircraft-battery state of charge and the Power station's remaining capacity and loads.
  8. Stop or revise the plan before reserves become inadequate; the station is not unlimited energy.

The crew should also decide who owns battery logging, temperature checks, Power-station monitoring and cable inspection. That matters especially when several people are launching, recovering and moving equipment between vehicles or work areas.

What Canadian Drone Operators Should Consider

SDC field charging is most useful in Canada where wall power is inconvenient: rural mapping sites, construction projects, infrastructure corridors, emergency-response staging areas, film locations and remote job sites. The practical question is not simply whether a station fits in the vehicle. It is whether the full kit—including batteries, cables, hubs, protected charging space and other loads—supports the mission window.

Cold weather needs its own plan. A portable station does not remove DJI battery charging-temperature limits or the aircraft battery's operating-temperature limits. Batteries may need controlled transport or conditioning before use, while recently flown batteries may still require cooling before charging. Do not place equipment where snow, water, dust, exhaust, direct heat or unsecured vehicle movement can create a new hazard. Plan the charging location before the crew arrives, and keep a fallback route if the main cable, hub or station cannot be used.

For public-safety and enterprise work, document the exact configuration and test it before deployment. SDC changes the energy workflow; it does not change Canadian flight authorization, airspace, pilot-certificate or mission-specific requirements.

What DJI Power SDC Fast Charging Does Not Guarantee

  • Compatibility with every DJI aircraft or battery
  • Charging immediately after every landing
  • Full charging power at every temperature
  • The exact reference time in field conditions
  • A guaranteed number of battery recharges
  • Unlimited mission endurance
  • Identical support across every firmware version
  • One cable working across every aircraft family

All charging-time figures in this guide are DJI laboratory or reference figures. Actual charging time can vary with temperature, initial state of charge, battery condition, station state, cable or hub configuration and concurrent loads.
