Build around a small film you can finish. Use DJI Pocket 4 for people, spoken explanations and close details, then use Lito X1 for a planned aerial view when the location and operation allow it. Choose the controller, batteries and file workflow before adding optional accessories.

This is a first production system, not a requirement to buy two cameras immediately. Pocket 4 can carry a complete ground-only story. The drone earns its place when a wider viewpoint explains something the ground camera cannot. Your first success is a short, coherent export with usable sound and safely backed-up originals.
Unlike a solo-vlog guide built around follow shots, this tutorial develops deliberate framing and the complete purchase-to-delivery routine. Work with each device separately before combining their clips. The two cameras do not connect into one synchronized recording system.
Build your first kit and film
01. Why Start With a Ground-and-Air Kit?
Start with the story, then decide whether it needs an aerial shot. A simple location film might show arriving, noticing a detail and leaving. Pocket 4 supplies the person and the experience. Lito X1 can establish the relationship between that person and the surrounding landscape. They serve different jobs, rather than competing to record every moment.
Choose a subject you can revisit and a location you have checked. Write one sentence describing what the viewer should understand. Then list a few necessary shots. If a ground-level wide shot already explains the place, there may be no reason to unpack the drone. A short, finished sequence teaches more than unrelated clips from two full storage devices.
Upgrading from a phone also adds work: charging, activation, safe transport, file transfer and editing. Keep the first setup small enough that you can explain every item in the bag. Learn to capture a usable ground take, complete a controlled flight and recover the originals. You can expand the system once those separate tasks feel routine.
02. What Pocket 4 Handles Best
Pocket 4 is the camera for the human part of your film. Its three-axis mechanical gimbal supports handheld movement, while the screen helps you check framing. Use it for a short introduction, an action at medium distance, a close detail and a clean stretch of location sound. Its 1-inch sensor is useful context, but controlling those four shots matters more than memorizing the specification list.
Walk gently, hold the opening and ending of a take, and check that focus remains on the intended subject. Stabilization does not remove every footstep or rescue a rushed composition. For speech, record and listen to a test at the distance you actually use. Wind and clothing noise are easier to address before leaving the location.

Standard is enough when its core camera and your existing audio arrangement meet the project. Creator adds specific tools, not a different core camera. Do not buy a wireless microphone simply because the word “creator” appears on a box, and do not assume Standard includes one. For an imminent trip, confirm the actual offer rather than planning around an unannounced Creator restock.
03. What Lito X1 Adds to Your Videos
Lito X1 adds a viewpoint you plan and operate. Begin with a steady environmental wide shot that tells the viewer where the ground sequence happens. Once you can take off, stop, reposition and land confidently in suitable conditions, practise one slow, deliberate camera movement. Avoid combining several stick inputs just to make the shot look complicated.
DJI lists a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, up to 4K/60fps HDR and 2.7K vertical recording. The practical choice is your delivery format. A landscape first film can use a consistent 4K/30fps cadence across both cameras. For a vertical project, compose for that shape: Lito's 2.7K portrait mode is not native 4K vertical. Test a short clip in the intended editor before the main shoot.
QuickShots, MasterShots and tracking can help later, but a beginner should first understand the intended movement and available space. Sensing and automated functions have operating conditions; they do not turn an unsuitable location into a safe set. Finish the Pocket take, secure the camera and give flying your attention. A solo operator should not manage a handheld presentation and an airborne drone at the same time.

04. Your Essential First Kit
Choose the included controller and battery count explicitly. The three Lito packages below share the X1 aircraft; the difference here is what you carry and operate. Start with the basic kit for short practice sessions, choose Fly More for more separate flights between charging opportunities, and consider RC 2 if a built-in screen solves a real phone-based setup problem.

These are separate SpeedyDrone listings, not a combined Pocket-and-drone bundle. Prices are CAD before tax, checked October 17, 2026. Online orderability does not establish physical stock or a dispatch date. The complete Lito X1 combo guide covers the wider package ladder and conditional store options; you do not need to solve every possible upgrade before your first film.
First-Time Creator Kit Checklist
Use this checklist against the exact product page and the equipment you already own. “Included” is a box-content fact; “needed” depends on your project. Keep those decisions separate.
On a phone, scroll inside the checklist to read each complete column.
| Decision | Verified starting point | Check before buying or leaving |
|---|---|---|
| Pocket package | Standard includes the core camera; Creator adds one Mic 3 transmitter, fill light and mini tripod among its accessories. | Does a speech test show you need extra audio? Creator currently shows SOLD OUT. |
| Lito package | Base: RC-N3 and one standard battery. Both regular Fly More listings: three standard batteries and hub; choose RC-N3 or RC 2. | Verify the exact controller, phone connection and battery type. Do not assume every Combo has the same contents. |
| Storage and backup | Pocket has 107GB internal storage; Lito X1 has 42GB. Both support suitable microSD cards. | Check free space, supported card model, editor playback and a second verified copy of the originals. |
| Carry and charge | The Lito Fly More boxes list a hub and shoulder bag. A hub is not a mains power adapter. | Check compatible power supply and cables; protect both gimbals, battery contacts and loose items during transport. |
| Flight readiness | Canadian category depends on actual operating weight and the operation, not the product name alone. | Weigh the ready-to-fly aircraft; check qualifications, site access, airspace, people, weather and a recovery area. |
| Editing route | Pocket uses D-Log; Lito X1 uses D-Log M. Normal is the simpler first practice route. | Make a short export test. If using Log, identify each source and apply the correct device-specific conversion. |
DJI's current Lito X1 FAQ lists RC-N3, RC 2 and RC-N2 compatibility. Check the exact model and complete firmware/linking process before relying on an existing controller. A DJI logo alone is insufficient. With RC-N3, check phone compatibility and the correct connector cable; the current store box list names a Lightning cable, so do not assume it supplies every phone connection.
For carrying, separate the camera from loose batteries and accessories that could press against its gimbal. Fit the supplied protections as directed before packing. Check the power adapter and cable requirements against the current manuals; none of the three Lito box lists above explicitly promises a mains adapter. More batteries help only if you can transport and charge them appropriately.
05. Your First Day With Both Cameras
Make the first day a sequence of small checks, not a race to get airborne. Read the current quick-start and safety material before operating either device. At home, charge the camera, flight batteries and controller, inspect the supplied parts and resolve updates or phone compatibility while you have reliable connectivity. Leave enough time for a ground-only practice if setup takes longer than expected.
Activate each device in its own app
Pocket 4 activation uses DJI Mimo. Follow its screen and connection prompts with the phone's required wireless functions enabled. Lito X1 uses DJI Fly: RC-N3 connects through a compatible internet-connected phone; first-time RC 2 setup needs internet through Wi-Fi or a hotspot before the aircraft activation process. These are two separate procedures. A successful Pocket connection does not activate or configure the drone.
- Prepare at homeCharge, inspect, activate and complete the required updates.
- Test on the groundRecord speech and detail; reopen the actual files.
- Practise one flightUse a checked site and a simple manual-guided flight plan.
- Preserve the originalsCopy by device and verify a second copy before clearing storage.
- Finish a short exportCheck picture, sound, orientation and playback.
Separate camera practice from flight practice
Record a Pocket introduction, a medium action and one detail. Listen back and open the files on the device you will edit with. For the drone session, review the manual's pre-flight inspection, control layout, home-point and return settings. At a suitable checked site, practise basic orientation, stopping and landing before concentrating on a film shot. Review battery warnings and a conservative landing plan; the advertised maximum is not a usable shooting target.
In Canada, Transport Canada defines a microdrone by an operating weight below 250g, including attached or carried items. DJI's approximate 249g standard specification is not a guarantee for your configured aircraft. A qualifying microdrone does not require registration or a pilot certificate, but safety obligations, restricted airspace and other laws remain. At or above 250g, check the applicable category and requirements.
For these beginner exercises, keep the aircraft in sight, well clear of people and hazards, and within a site and weather window you can manage. Check land access separately from airspace. Parks Canada places are no-drone zones for recreational use. If flight is unavailable, complete the ground sequence and practise flying another day. A camera exercise is never permission for a particular operation.
Progress by completing work
06. Three Beginner Projects
Increase the project before increasing the equipment. Each exercise below is an illustrative teaching plan. Choose a location and operation you have independently checked, rehearse without recording where helpful, and finish the edit before moving to the next exercise.
Project 01: First Ground-and-Air Sequence
Record a departure or arrival, one person performing an ordinary action, and a close detail with Pocket 4. Put it away, then make a separate Lito flight for one steady environmental view. Combine the clips so the viewer understands who is there and where the action takes place. If the aerial shot adds no information, use a ground wide instead.
Finish when: the sequence makes sense without an explanation from you, the spoken line or ambient sound is usable, and you can locate both sets of originals. Do not add tracking or elaborate movements simply to make the exercise feel advanced.
Project 02: Create a 30-Second Location Video
Plan a wide view, a medium action, a person and a detail at the same location. Record handles before and after each useful moment so you have room to trim. Use the drone for context only where appropriate; the Pocket supplies the experience. Select the clips that explain the place rather than forcing every recorded take into the timeline.
Finish when: the export is 30 seconds, the order is understandable, and each shot contributes something different. Create separate Pocket and Lito folders and note which originals produced the finished clips. This exercise trains selection and organisation, not spectacular flying.
Project 03: Produce Your First Complete Short Film
Write a simple beginning, middle and ending before the next visit. Build a 60-second film with location sound, a short title and an intentional closing shot. Use the following scaffold as a starting point, not a rule about how much drone footage a film needs. A ground-only replacement should preserve the story if the planned flight cannot proceed.
-
0-15sArrive
Establish the place, then introduce the person or purpose. An aerial wide is optional.
-
15-45sExperience
Use a medium action, details and intelligible sound. Keep the viewer with the subject.
-
45-60sResolve
End the activity or leave the location. Let the final picture and sound complete the idea.
Finish when: someone else can watch the exported file from start to finish, hear the intended sound and read the title. Check it on the intended phone or screen, not just in the editor. Keep a copy of the finished film alongside its project and source folders so you can reopen or revise it later.

07. Common Beginner Mistakes
Planning the shot before checking the flight
A good composition does not establish safe access, acceptable airspace or suitable conditions. Resolve those first. On location, keep flying and handheld filming as separate tasks. Do not let a promised shot, tracking feature or battery maximum pressure you into continuing a flight.
Discovering the file problem at home
Both cameras have internal storage, but neither is your backup of the other. Lito 4K uses H.265, so test actual playback and editing on your device. Copy originals into clearly named device folders, open representative files and verify a second copy before formatting or deleting media. A low-resolution phone preview is not evidence that the original has been preserved.
Using Log before having an editing route
Normal is the simpler starting profile. If you recorded Log, identify Pocket 4 D-Log and Lito X1 D-Log M separately. Use each device's appropriate conversion before balancing the shots; a shared LUT is not a universal fix. DJI's Log support information and the exact Lito X1 FAQ/download record provide the relevant starting points. Avoid applying the same technical conversion twice in a colour-managed editor.
Resolution and profile names also do not settle every output setting. Choose a delivery format, make a short test export and check it on the intended screen. Diagnose exposure, sound and colour problems before the main project rather than buying another camera to compensate for an untested workflow.
08. When Should You Upgrade?
Keep this kit while practice and planning still solve the problem. Review a few completed films. Was the missing result caused by framing, an unsuitable location, poor audio, incomplete coverage or a file-handling mistake? None automatically calls for a different camera. Improve the repeatable weak step first.
Consider Mini 5 Pro when a specific aerial requirement, such as its native vertical workflow, matters to work you actually make. Consider Pocket 4P when its separate 60mm-equivalent med-tele camera solves a recurring framing need. They change different parts of the system; neither is a mandatory next purchase after finishing the three exercises.

Questions Before Your First Kit
Do I need both Pocket 4 and Lito X1 to start?
No. Begin with the equipment that fills a real gap. A phone or Pocket can make a complete ground-level film, especially at a location where flight is unsuitable. Add Lito X1 when a permitted aerial view explains something important about the place. You will also need time for flight practice, charging and file handling. The projects here work best when you finish a small sequence before expanding the equipment, rather than treating two camera purchases as the starting qualification.
Is Pocket 4 Standard enough, or should I choose Creator?
Standard can be sufficient for handheld filming and a simple first project when its core camera and your available audio arrangement meet the need. Creator adds the listed microphone, lighting, support and carry accessories; it does not change the core camera. Record a speech test before deciding which extra tools matter. The Creator listing showed SOLD OUT when checked on October 17, 2026, so confirm the current offer if you need equipment by a particular departure date. Standard does not include the same audio kit.
Does every Lito X1 Combo include three batteries and RC 2?
No. The current basic Lito X1 listing includes RC-N3 and one standard battery. The regular Fly More RC-N3 and Fly More RC 2 listings include three standard batteries, the charging hub and shoulder bag, with different controllers. Read the exact product page, not just the words Fly More. Plus and retailer-added configurations need their own checks. Three batteries provide separate flights with landing and swapping; they are not continuous filming time. Also verify the required power adapter and phone connection.
Can I reuse a DJI controller I already own?
Check the exact model against the current Lito X1 FAQ. DJI lists RC-N3, RC 2 and RC-N2, but a controller carrying the DJI name is not automatically compatible. Confirm firmware, aircraft linking and any phone or connection-cable requirements before relying on the existing unit. RC 2's screen does not remove first-time internet activation. If your controller is compatible, compare the actual retailer configuration and any applicable modification terms; this guide does not promise a controller-free package, refund or price deduction.
Can I use the same app and Log conversion for both cameras?
No single shared setup should be assumed. Pocket 4 uses DJI Mimo for activation and phone connection, while Lito X1 uses DJI Fly through its controller arrangement. In editing, Pocket 4 D-Log and Lito X1 D-Log M are different source profiles and need their appropriate device-specific conversion. Starting with Normal and a short test export reduces the initial workload. Test the actual files through your chosen editor before departure, and check the intended output rather than assuming identical colour from similar setting names.
Are the built-in storage spaces enough for a first film?
Pocket 4 has 107GB internal storage and Lito X1 has 42GB; both also support suitable microSD cards. Whether that is enough depends on free space, recording settings and how much you record before offloading. Do a representative capture and transfer test rather than estimating from the final film's length. Keep camera originals in identifiable folders and verify another copy before clearing either device. Separate internal storage is convenient, but it does not provide an automatic backup or a shared media library.
Is Lito X1 automatically registration-free in Canada?
Use the actual ready-to-fly operating weight, not the model name or an approximate marketing figure. Transport Canada's microdrone threshold is below 250g, including attached or carried items. A qualifying microdrone does not require registration or a pilot certificate, but safety, restricted airspace and other laws still apply. If the configuration is at or above the threshold, check the applicable category and requirements. Site access and Parks Canada recreational restrictions remain separate questions. None of the exercises grants permission for a particular flight.
