Flying Your DJI Air 3S? Take This Accessory Off First

A propeller holder keeps folded blades together during transport. A propeller guard creates a physical barrier around spinning blades in a supported flight installation. The holder must come off before flight; guards require their own compatibility and operating checks. They solve different problems, and neither replaces careful flying or the Air 3S sensing system.

Why Air 3S Owners Need Different Types of Protection

A loose blade catching the edge of a bag is a transport problem. A spinning propeller approaching an object is a flight problem. Putting both accessories under the word “protection” can hide that distinction.

The AEROVAULT Viewfinder Case & Accessory Bundle for DJI Air 3S lists an orange BRDRC holder and a separate BRDRC guard set. Their presence in one package does not mean they stay on together. Start by identifying the part in your hand and the stage of the outing it serves.

Same aircraft. Two different jobs.

Question Propeller holder Propeller guards
When? Transport and storage, aircraft powered off. Only in a confirmed compatible flight installation.
Main job Restrain folded blades. Provide a physical barrier around blades.
Before launch Remove it. Verify the exact part, fit and operating instructions.
Endurance Not fitted during flight. DJI warns that guards reduce endurance; no BRDRC-specific figure verified.
Before folding Fit only when the aircraft is ready for transport. Remove guards before folding arms.
Obstacle sensing? No sensing function. No sensing function; does not replace obstacle avoidance.

What Does a Propeller Holder Actually Do?

A holder limits the movement of folded propellers while you carry the aircraft. It can be useful when loose blades otherwise snag on a bag opening or shift as equipment moves between locations. BRDRC describes its strap holder as a storage accessory.

Use the instructions for the supplied part to arrange the blades and secure the holder. It should not become a way to force misaligned blades into a case. Check that the packing arrangement does not press on them, and stop if a restraint appears to bend a blade or requires force.

Remove the holder before preparing the aircraft for flight. The Air 3S user manual, section 2.4, explicitly includes propeller holders among the protective devices to remove. The gimbal protector is a separate item; it must also be removed before powering on.

A useful packing habit is to give both removed pieces a dedicated pocket or compartment. You can see what came off, avoid leaving it at the launch site and find it again after landing.

What Does a Propeller Guard Do?

A guard places a barrier around part of the propeller area. It does not make the aircraft collision-proof, guarantee protection from injury or add obstacle detection. Its usefulness depends on the exact design, a supported installation and the proposed flight. Do not treat inclusion in a bundle as a reason to fit guards for every landscape outing.

Check Air 3S compatibility at the part level

DJI’s guard guidance makes an easily missed distinction: the official Air 3S guard is compatible with Air 3, but the official Air 3 guard cannot be used with Air 3S. That statement concerns DJI’s designs; it does not validate a third-party guard.

SpeedyDrone lists the included BRDRC set for Air 3 / Air 3S. However, the BRDRC guard page reviewed names Air 3, without confirming the exact Air 3S hardware revision supplied here. Confirm the part number, Air 3S instructions and mounting arrangement before use. If those do not match, leave the guards off and resolve the mismatch.

The Air 3S manual also specifies genuine DJI or DJI-authorized parts. A third-party item appearing in a retailer bundle does not establish DJI authorization. This guide cannot certify the supplied guard’s fit or approval.

Plan around changed endurance

DJI warns that installing guards reduces endurance. Watch the remaining battery and return prompts rather than planning around the unguarded aircraft’s maximum figure. No verified percentage or flight-time result is available here for this BRDRC set, so allow for that uncertainty when deciding whether it suits the mission.

What Should You Check Before Flying?

Separate packing, setup, flight and recovery. The transition from the first stage to the second is where the transport restraint must leave the aircraft. The following workflow is designed for this guide; it supplements the current aircraft and accessory instructions.

Air 3S field workflowDesigned for this guide. The guard branch is conditional on confirmed compatibility and instructions.
  1. 01

    Packing

Aircraft off. Check blade arrangement, use the compatible holder as instructed and close the case only when nothing is under pressure.

    Holder: transport only
  2. 02

    Setup

Remove the holder and gimbal protector. Assess the site, inspect the aircraft and follow its preparation sequence. Fit guards only with a verified supported setup.

    Holder: removed
  3. 03

    Flight

Keep suitable clearance and monitor aircraft behaviour, conditions and battery. A guard does not make an unsuitable flight acceptable.

    Guards: conditional
  4. 04

    After flight

Stop recording, land and power off. Inspect blades, remove guards before folding and protect the equipment for the next move.

    Return to transport setup

Imagine arriving at a second viewpoint after a short drive. Reassess that location rather than copying the first site’s setup. Wind, space and the landing surface may differ, while a hurried unpack can leave a transport part in place. A short, consistent check is more useful than assuming yesterday’s configuration is ready.

A six-point launch check

Use these as prompts alongside the full DJI checklist. Ticks are temporary page controls, not a stored flight record.

If an accessory will not seat correctly, a blade touches it or the setup produces an unexplained warning, stop and resolve the issue. Do not force a bracket into place or change safety settings just to make an uncertain accessory installation usable.

How Do a Case and Landing Pad Fit In?

The case and pad work around the aircraft rather than staying attached in the air. The AEROVAULT Air 3S hard case gives compatible equipment a structured place to travel. The holder addresses blade movement within that routine; the case does not remove the need to check pressure points and fit.

The included 50cm folding pad comes with a storage bag and four ground stakes. Use it on an appropriate surface and secure it as conditions require. It is not a substitute for sufficient space, a stable site or a clear area around the propellers.

Before departure, rehearse your packing arrangement. Remove external attachments as needed; do not assume the full expanded kit fits inside the case simultaneously or that guards can remain installed. The merchant listing explicitly notes that larger accessories may need to be carried separately.

42GB internal storage

Do you need another card?

Air 3S already has 42GB of internal storage, according to DJI’s specifications. The bundle’s Lexar Professional SILVER PLUS 128GB microSDXC card, with SD adapter, adds removable media. It is useful when that workflow or extra capacity matters; it is not compulsory for every owner.

Check the exact card against your recording requirements and current DJI guidance, then confirm the selected storage destination before a flight. The SILVER PLUS card is not named in the DJI recommended-card list reviewed here. Back up footage before erasing or formatting either destination.

RC-N3 vs RC 2 Accessory Options

Viewfinder has two accessory configurations. Both share the case, pad, card, orange holder and guard set. Choose by the controller you already own, then check which extras you still need.

The RC 2 extras address the screen

A sun hood may help shade the built-in screen; a protector addresses daily surface wear. They do not upgrade the aircraft. The RC-N3 version has no RC 2-specific additions, and the RC 2 accessories should not be assumed to suit a phone-based RC-N3 setup.

Neither includes an aircraft or remote controller. No extra flight battery, charger or charging hub is listed. The C$43.00 difference buys the listed controller accessories, not an RC 2.

Should You Buy the Entire Accessory Bundle?

Buy around a gap in your existing kit. Viewfinder is worth comparing when you need several listed items, particularly structured carrying space plus launch and recording accessories. Confirm the supplied holder and guard details as part of that decision.

Skip another bundle if your current case, suitable card and pad already do the job. If all you want is a blade restraint, compare a confirmed compatible holder on its own rather than paying to duplicate the rest. A landscape pilot may also decide not to use guards for a particular supported operation; owning them does not make them mandatory equipment.

If your real gap is another battery or a charging hub, this accessory package does not fill it. Our Air 3S Combo buying guide explains the factory packages. The Chase the View guide covers a separate bundle that includes the aircraft. Keep those purchase decisions separate from preparing equipment you already own.
