DJI Agras T55 or T50? The better machine is the one that fits this season.
The T55 brings a larger spray system, much higher stated granular throughput, lifting support and a revised platform. The T50 has something less dramatic and more useful to many Canadian buyers: a current purchasing and support path.

Agricultural equipment is bought against a season, not against a launch event. A larger tank can matter. So can a faster spreading system, stronger sensing or a new controller. But none of those numbers tell a Canadian farm whether the aircraft can be quoted, supported, documented and put to work in the window that matters.
DJI has introduced the Agras T55 globally and states that it is sold only in selected countries and regions. A global product page is not proof of Canadian availability, Canadian package contents or the compliance evidence required for a particular operation. That makes this less of a “new versus old” comparison and more of a procurement decision between a known working path and a newer capability set.
For most Canadian buyers planning a current deployment, the T50 remains the practical default. It has an established 40 L workflow, active SpeedyDrone Canada listings and known package options. Wait for the T55 when its 50 L spray capacity, much higher maximum spreading discharge, dedicated lifting support or updated safety architecture would materially change the mission — and only after Canadian availability, price, exact configuration, regulatory evidence and support are confirmed.
The numbers matter. Their Canadian context matters more.
The T55 is a meaningful platform update on paper. The question is whether those changes remove a real bottleneck in the operation you are preparing to run.

The extra capacity only helps when refill, battery, mixing, transport and crew logistics keep pace.

Specifications are manufacturer maximums under stated test conditions. Actual performance varies with material, application rate, density, moisture, terrain, weather, route design, configuration and crew workflow. Canadian availability and regulatory records are time-sensitive.
The T55 is more than ten extra litres.
Its strongest case is the combined change in liquid flow, granular throughput, lifting, sensing and the controller and battery environment. That can unlock a different operation — or simply create a more expensive transition.
More spray capacity and flow
A larger tank and higher pump output may reduce interruptions at demanding application volumes — if the field crew can refill and recharge at the same pace.
A different spreading class
The T55's 400 kg/min stated maximum points to high-throughput granular work. Material behaviour and calibrated target rate still determine usable output.
Dedicated lifting support
The optional 40 kg lifting system opens another mission category. Buyers need a real payload, route, risk assessment and operating pathway before it becomes purchase value.
Revised obstacle sensing
Additional radar directions and tri-vision sensing can improve situational awareness. They do not make wires, branches, slopes or dynamic obstacles disappear.
New controller environment
DJI RC Plus 2 AG means buyers should ask about fleet compatibility, operator training, accessories, repair coverage and spares.
Two battery options
DB1050 and DB1580 choices create flexibility, but they also make package design more important. Capacity, weight, charging and mission pattern must be evaluated together.
The T50 is a working system, not just a 40 L aircraft.
Productivity comes from the aircraft, application hardware, batteries, charging, refill, transport, calibration, training and support working together. A new airframe specification does not make an established workflow obsolete.
Buy the T50 when deployment matters more than novelty. Wait when T55 changes the job.
A defined Canadian workflow should put more weight on available configuration, support and operating process than on a future local release that has not been fully documented.
Choose the current platform when:
- You are preparing for a current or next-in-window deployment.
- A 40 L spray payload already meets the target application workflow.
- You want to quote a known Canadian aircraft or package configuration.
- Your team already understands the DB1560 battery and charging workflow.
- You do not have a defined need for lifting.
- The T55's maximum spreading throughput would not remove an actual operational bottleneck.
- Local parts, training and seller support matter more than owning the latest model.
Keep the T55 on the plan when:
- High-volume granular spreading is a major share of the business case.
- Higher liquid flow materially changes the intended application.
- A validated lifting mission is part of the project.
- The new sensing system answers a real site requirement.
- The purchase is for a later season and the schedule allows Canada details to mature.
- You are prepared to wait for price, package, support and regulatory evidence.
Do not delay a well-defined, legal and supportable T50 project only because the T55 exists. Wait when a T55 capability changes the operation enough to justify the uncertainty.
Do not compare the tank alone. Model the complete field system.
A larger payload can move the bottleneck from the aircraft to mixing, refill, charging, transport or crew capacity. The airframe is only one part of the workday.
Mission and rate
Crop, material, target rate, spray volume, label directions, field size, terrain and application window.
Aircraft and payload
Tank or hopper, material compatibility, nozzles or spreading hardware, RTK and route design.
Ground workflow
Battery count, charger or generator, cooling, mixing, water, refill time, loading, transport and crew roles.
Canadian operating path
Pilot certificate, aircraft registration, safety-assurance evidence, site conditions, pesticide label and provincial requirements.
Aircraft capability is not pesticide authorization. Health Canada's current RPAS policy permits drone application only for products already registered for conventional aerial application, with the full aerial label followed. Transport Canada requirements also depend on aircraft weight and the exact operation. Both the T50 and T55 are above the 25 kg small-drone threshold in their working configurations, so Canadian buyers need an appropriate operating and evidence plan.
Before ordering, document the intended crop, product label, province, annual acres, application rate, field map, target window, pilot qualification and support responsibility. The right answer may be a T50 package today, or a later T55 review — but it should never be “the larger tank wins.”

Is the DJI Agras T55 available in Canada?
DJI says the T55 is available only in selected countries and regions. At the time of this review, Canada-specific SpeedyDrone pricing, package configuration and delivery were not confirmed. Buyers should not treat a global product page as proof of Canadian availability.
Will the T55 make the Agras T50 obsolete?
No. The T50 remains useful when its 40 L spray and 50 kg spreading workflows fit the mission and the buyer values an established Canadian package, battery and support path. T55 matters when its added capabilities solve a defined operational problem.
What is the biggest difference between the T55 and T50?

Is the T55 four times faster at spreading than the T50?

Should a Canadian farm buy the T50 now or wait?

Yes, the Agras T50 appeared on the live Transport Canada list reviewed August 20, 2026. That does not approve every operation. The operator must match the exact declaration and aircraft to the proposed operation and recheck the current list.
Does buying a T50 or T55 authorize pesticide spraying?
No. Aircraft ownership does not authorize a pesticide use. Health Canada's policy, the current registered product label, provincial or territorial requirements, Transport Canada rules and the exact operation all remain relevant.
Which SpeedyDrone T50 package should I choose?
Choose from the complete working system backward. A drone-only buyer must add the appropriate battery, charging and application hardware.
